A staircase is one of the few places in a home with the ceiling height to properly show off a large pendant or chandelier, and it's often the first thing visitors see. Our staircase lighting collection ranges from dramatic multi light centrepieces to the small marker lights that keep every step safely lit.

Statement pieces for stairwells

Endon's Marietta 16 Light Pendant and Fabula's Farnley, available in 18 and 24 light versions, are built for exactly this kind of space, genuinely large fixtures designed to be seen from more than one floor. Searchlight's Edith and Woodbine chandeliers offer a similarly dramatic multi arm design in brass and glass. Because these are substantial fittings, always check the total drop against your stairwell height and any half landings before ordering.

Lighting the steps themselves

Alongside the overhead statement piece, Collingwood's small LED marker lights can be recessed into the wall or skirting alongside each step, giving safe, even light underfoot without relying on the main fitting alone.

• Hardwired stairwell lighting should always be installed by a qualified electrician, particularly given the height and access involved.
• Large multi light pendants and chandeliers can weigh significantly more than a standard fitting, so check the ceiling fixing is rated to support the weight before ordering.
