A Spotlight That Changes Colour, Whatever the Weather
The Collingwood UL030RGBW is a low voltage LED spotlight that switches between red, green, blue and a genuine white beam at 4000K, rather than blending colours to fake a white light the way plain RGB fittings do. Built into a compact stainless steel head on a swivelling bracket, it throws a 45 degree beam that can be aimed at a wall, a tree, or straight down into a pond. Rated IP67, it copes with rain, spray and temporary submersion without any fuss.
316 Stainless Steel, Built to Stay Outside
The body is machined from 316 grade stainless steel, the marine specification used on boats and coastal structures because it resists salt corrosion far better than standard steel. The ribbed barrel gives a solid grip when adjusting the beam, and the brushed finish sits comfortably against stone, render, timber decking or the metal edging of a pond. A small square fixing plate with a pivot bolt lets the head swivel a full 360 degrees, so it can be levelled and aimed precisely once fitted.
How It Works
Inside the head sits an RGBW LED module, three colour channels plus a true white LED at 4000K, switched rather than mixed. Power draw is 2W on red and 3W on green, blue or white, with 12W the maximum draw across the whole fitting. It's a low voltage light, so it needs a separate driver, sold apart from the fitting, and it wires in series, meaning several UL030RGBW heads can run from one driver and one length of cable. It pairs with Collingwood's own RGBW controllers for switching and colour selection, and wall fixings are included for mounting the plate.
Where It Works Best
Because it's rated for submersion as well as weather, this is as much a pond and water feature light as a garden spotlight. Use it sunk at the edge of a pond and aimed up through the water, staked among planting to uplight a specimen tree or shrub, or fixed to a low wall or fence post to wash colour across a patio or coastal terrace. The swivel head means one fitting can be repositioned as planting grows or a display changes with the seasons.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and builds its LED fittings from its base in Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has worked solely with LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale trade, and it holds an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top five percent of companies assessed worldwide for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Comes with a 5 year manufacturer's warranty.
- Rated IP67, meaning it's protected against dust and can withstand temporary submersion in water, and it's specified for bathroom zone 1. See our guide to bathroom lighting zones if you're considering the same fitting indoors.
- Class III electrical rating, run on safety extra low voltage supplied by the driver, with no separate earth connection needed.
- Dimming depends entirely on the driver used. The fitting has no dimming control of its own, so check compatibility before wiring it into an existing dimmer circuit.
- Wired in series, so multiple heads can share one driver and one Collingwood RGBW controller.
- Wipe the stainless steel body clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can dull the brushed finish.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Can the UL030RGBW be submerged in a pond?
Yes. Its IP67 rating means the Collingwood UL030RGBW is protected against dust and can withstand temporary submersion in water, which is why it's sold as both a garden spotlight and an underwater pond light.
Does the UL030RGBW come with a driver?
No. The driver is sold separately from the light itself. The fitting is low voltage and needs a compatible Collingwood driver, wired in series, to operate.
Can this light be dimmed?
Dimming depends entirely on the driver it's paired with, since the UL030RGBW itself has no built in dimming control.
What is the beam angle and maximum wattage?
The UL030RGBW has a 45 degree beam angle and draws a maximum of 12W across the fitting, with 2W used on the red channel and 3W on green, blue or white.
What material is the light made from?
It's machined from 316 grade stainless steel, the marine grade specification chosen for its resistance to corrosion in coastal and wet environments.
