One Handset, Four Zones of Colour
This is the handheld remote that runs Collingwood's RGB and RGBW colour change lighting over RF, letting you flick between colours, whites and brightness levels without a wall plate or a phone app. It talks to up to four separate zones of RF receivers, so if you've got colour change lighting in more than one room or area, you can call each one up on its own rather than controlling everything together.
The Remote Itself
It's a compact black handset, 120mm long, 55mm wide and 17mm deep, small enough to sit in a kitchen drawer or a side table without getting in the way. The top half is a full colour wheel with a central "W" button for switching to white light, and below that sit numbered zone buttons, brightness controls either side of a central power button, a play or timer function, a "W+" button and three programmable scene buttons. It runs on 3 x AAA batteries, which aren't included.
How It Works
Press a number to select which zone of receivers you're talking to, then use the colour wheel, the white button or the brightness keys to set the mood in that zone. Each receiver can be paired with up to eight remotes, so it's just as easy to keep one handset in the living room and a second by the bed, both controlling the same RGB or RGBW fitting, or have several household members with their own handset for the same zone.
Where It Works Best
This remote is the simplest way to add manual control to a Collingwood colour change installation, particularly where a wired wall controller isn't practical or an app based system is more than the job needs. Because it works over RF rather than a direct wired connection, it doesn't need line of sight to the receiver, so it's just as happy controlling lights from across a room, through a stud wall, or from the garden looking back at the house. Electricians and installers use it to hand a straightforward, low fuss handset to customers who want colour changing light without learning a new app, and it suits multi zone jobs, such as a kitchen and a garden, where each area needs to be switched independently.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. Accessories like this remote are part of a wider system the brand has built around that specialism, pairing simple handheld control with the RF receivers and RGB/RGBW fittings it also produces. Collingwood says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, and the company holds a Gold medal from EcoVadis, putting it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Rated IP20, so it's designed for dry, indoor handling rather than outdoor or bathroom use.
- Controls up to 4 independent zones of RF receivers, with up to 8 remotes able to pair to a single receiver.
- Runs on 3 x AAA batteries, which are not included in the box.
- This is a control accessory only. It has no light output of its own and needs a separately sold Collingwood RF receiver and RGB or RGBW fitting to work with.
Questions People Ask
How many lighting zones can I control from one remote?
Up to four separate zones of RF receivers, controlled independently of each other from the same handset.
Can I use more than one remote with the same lights?
Yes. Each RF receiver can be paired with up to eight remotes, so multiple handsets can control the same zone.
Does it come with batteries?
No. It takes 3 x AAA batteries, which need to be bought separately.
Will this remote work on its own?
No. It's a control accessory only, with no light output of its own. It needs a compatible Collingwood RF receiver and RGB or RGBW fitting to control.
Does it need to see the receiver to work?
It communicates over RF rather than infrared, so it doesn't need direct line of sight to the receiver it's controlling.
