This is the smallest fitting in Collingwood's Tilt adjustable ground light range, sized for a 118.5mm cut out. What separates it from an ordinary recessed ground light is the mechanism under the bezel. The lens block swings up to 25 degrees, so a fitting set flat into a driveway or a path can still be aimed at a wall, a tree or a doorway rather than firing straight upward. The LED is RGBW, which means one fitting covers both full colour and a fixed 3000K warm white. It holds a static load of 2000kg and is rated for drive over use at up to 15mph.

All you see once it is installed is the bezel, a plain brushed disc of 316 stainless steel broken only by two countersunk fixing screws. 316 is the marine grade of stainless, which is why this fitting is specified for coastal work where a lesser grade would eventually bloom with rust. Below the surface the body is anodised aluminium inside a ribbed black housing, with the cable entering from the side. The soft grey of brushed steel is easy to place: it disappears into granite setts and grey porcelain paving, warms up nicely against buff stone and timber decking, and matches stainless door furniture, handrails and glass balustrade clamps without any fuss.

How It Works

The fitting recesses into a 118.5mm cut out and measures 130mm across the bezel by 136mm deep, so the ground needs to take that depth below the finished surface. It weighs 1kg. Inside, the LED array draws 2W and produces between 30 and 90 lumens depending on the colour called for, through a 40 degree beam with a CRI of 80. Before the surface is made good, the tilt is set by hand, giving you up to 25 degrees of adjustment from vertical.

This is the low voltage version, Class III, so it does not go straight to the mains. It runs from a separately supplied low voltage driver, and the fittings are wired in series along the run. Colour is called from the control gear on that circuit rather than at the fitting itself. Each light arrives pre wired with 1 metre of cable, which saves making off a tail in a trench.

Where It Works Best

This is a fitting for surfaces that get walked on and parked on. Set it into a block paved driveway to graze the front of the house, run a line of them along a path or a set of steps, or drop a few into a patio to uplight a specimen tree and switch the whole scheme to colour for an evening. Because it takes vehicle weight, it suits thresholds, turning circles and parking bays where a surface mounted spike or bollard would be in the way. Marine grade steel and IP67 sealing make it a sensible choice for seafront and estuary properties. The specification also lists it for bathroom zone 2, and at IP67 it is sealed well past the minimum a wet room floor asks for, so it can be recessed indoors too.
