316 Stainless Steel Bezel Over an Anodised Aluminium Body

The part you see once the ground is made good is a 316 stainless steel bezel, brushed to a soft grey, with two countersunk fixing screws set into the face. Everything below it is anodised aluminium. 316 is the marine grade of stainless, the one specified for coastal and poolside work, because it stands up to salt and chloride far better than the standard grade does. That brushed grey face is quiet enough to sit against almost any surface: grey porcelain paving, buff sandstone, block paving, resin bound gravel or a timber deck. The bezel measures 180mm across with 168mm of depth below it, and the unit weighs 2kg.

How It Works

The LEDs are integrated, arranged as a cluster of faceted lenses behind a recessed glass front. RGBW means there is a dedicated white emitter working alongside the red, green and blue, so the white output is a genuine 3000K rather than a colour mix pretending to be white. Power draw depends on what you are asking it to do: 4.5W in red, 5W in green or blue, and 5.5W in white. Collingwood quotes an output range of 100 to 300 lumens across the colours, with a CRI of 80 on the white. This is a low voltage, Class III fitting, which means it needs a separate driver to run and one is not supplied with it. Fittings on this range are wired in series, and each one arrives with a metre of cable already attached so there is something to work with at the bottom of the hole. The tilt is set by turning a knob on the unit before you backfill and finish around it, so aim it while you still have access.

The drive over rating is what opens up the difficult positions. Set these into the driveway itself, into a turning circle or a parking bay, across a threshold where a path meets a gate, or along the edge of a patio where a border light would just get kicked. Angle the head and they become uplighters for a rendered wall, a specimen tree, a hedge line or a run of columns. On a commercial forecourt or a hotel approach the RGBW output earns its keep, letting a client change the scheme for a season or an event and drop back to warm white the rest of the year. The 316 bezel and IP67 sealing make it a sensible choice around pools and on coastal sites.
