A Ground Light Built To Be Walked On
The GL016 sits flush into paving, decking or gravel and takes foot traffic without complaint. It's one of Collingwood's most popular ground lights, small enough to disappear into a path by day and bright enough to mark the way after dark.
This Black Finish
This version has a black finish over a stainless steel 316 body, with a clear round lens that gives a tighter, more directional beam than Collingwood's frosted alternative. This listing covers three white colour temperatures, 2700K, 3000K and 4000K, plus a Blue accent option, so you can match the light to a path, a patio or a water feature edge.
How It Works
- Runs at 1W on a 350mA driver or 2W on a 700mA driver, giving a choice between subtle path lighting and a brighter, more visible marker.
- 26 degree beam angle, CRI 80.
- Low voltage, so it needs a separate driver rather than a mains connection at the fitting itself.
- Wired in series, meaning several GL016 fittings can share one driver.
- Dimmable, provided it's paired with a suitable low voltage dimmable driver.
Where It Works Best
Use it along a garden path, set into decking or a patio, or ringed around a pond or water feature edge. Because it's built to be walked over, it also suits driveways, steps and lawn edges where a standard outdoor spotlight simply couldn't sit underfoot.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fully waterproof, sealed for life LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, and a submersible, walk over ground light like this one is a fair example of that claim. Collingwood has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good To Know
- IP68 rated, so it's sealed against dust and built to handle continuous submersion, useful for water features as well as paths and decking.
- IK09 impact rated and genuinely walk over rated for foot traffic.
- Class III, low voltage, so it must be run from a suitable driver rather than wired directly to mains.
- Wired in series, so multiple GL016 fittings can share one driver.
- 60mm diameter, 43mm deep, with a 50mm cutout, and weighs 0.5kg.
- Comes with a 7 year warranty.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician, since the driver this fitting runs from will usually be wired into your mains supply.
Questions People Ask
Can you really walk on it?
Yes. The GL016 is IK09 impact rated and genuinely walk over rated, so it's designed to take foot traffic on paths, patios and decking.
Is it actually submersible?
Yes. It's IP68 rated, meaning it's sealed against dust and built to handle continuous submersion, which is why it also works set into the edge of a pond or water feature.
Do I need a separate driver?
Yes. This is a low voltage fitting, so it needs a compatible LED driver. It isn't designed to run straight from mains voltage.
Can I run more than one GL016 from a single driver?
Yes. It's wired in series, so several GL016 fittings can share one driver, provided the driver has enough capacity for the total wattage.
What's the difference between the colour temperature options and the Blue version?
The 2700K, 3000K and 4000K options move from warm to cool white light for general path and garden use, while the Blue version gives a coloured accent, often chosen for water features.
