A Sealed 700mA Driver for LED Runs That Cannot Take Mains
Plenty of LED fittings will not run straight off the mains. They need a driver sitting between the supply and the light, holding the current steady so the LEDs behave. The Collingwood PSIP70036W does exactly that at a fixed 700mA, feeding anything from 18W up to 36W of connected load. It is sealed to IP65, so it can live in a garden enclosure, under a deck or inside a soffit without needing to be babied.

Collingwood builds this driver in more than one output size and this is the 700mA version with the larger 36W ceiling. The current is locked at 700mA while the output voltage floats between 25V and 50V DC to suit whatever is connected, which is what allows a single driver to carry several fittings on one run. The body is a compact black plastic moulding, 149mm long, 37mm wide and just 24mm tall, with a lightly ribbed top face and a moulded fixing flange at one end. Nothing about it is decorative. It is designed to disappear behind the lighting it powers.
How It Works
A 220V to 240V mains supply comes in on the brown and blue cores of the input tail. The driver converts that to a smoothed DC output delivered on the red and black cores of the output tail. Both tails are 0.2m of 1mm² two core cable at 7mm diameter, passing through a sealed gland at each end of the case, so in practice you are joining into a weatherproof connector or a junction box close by. Collingwood builds in protection against short circuit, overload and overheating, and quotes 85% efficiency with a power factor of 0.9. The driver is supplied on its own. Fittings, connectors and enclosures are all separate.
Where It Works Best
This is a landscape and exterior driver first. Think spike lights running down a border, ground lights set across a driveway, or step lights on a garden staircase, all fed from one unit instead of a driver hidden beside every fitting. Indoors it does the same job above a ceiling, in a loft void or inside a cabinet plinth. The fixing flange lets it be screwed down to a joist, a batten or the back of an enclosure rather than left hanging on its own cables. IP65 covers dust and water jets, and the product data lists it as suitable for bathroom zone 1, so it can also serve bathroom fittings that need a remote driver.
