Get the Groundwork Right First
Ground lights need a clean, stable hole to sit in once the paving, concrete or lawn around them is finished. This aluminium tube is what makes that possible. You set it in place while the groundworks are still being done, so the ground light itself has a ready made recess to drop into later, rather than a hole cut or cored after the fact.
The 56mm Diameter Version
This is the TUBE/50, sized to a 56mm internal diameter for Collingwood's smaller ground light bodies. It has a hole cut into the side wall near the base for the cable to exit sideways, rather than straight up through the bottom of the tube. Check the cutout and depth needed for your specific ground light before you order, so the tube matches the fitting going into it.
How It Works
- The tube is set into wet concrete, compacted sand or firmed soil before the surface finish goes down
- Once everything has set, the ground light body drops straight into the tube
- The side cut hole lets the supply cable run out to one side, keeping it clear of the base of the fitting
- Lining the hole this way stops the surrounding concrete, paving or soil crumbling into the recess over time
Where It's Used
This tube earns its keep on any job where the ground light goes in after the hard landscaping. Driveways, patios, paths and steps are the usual places, along with lawns and borders where a ground light will be recessed once turf or planting goes back in. It's especially useful on new build or renovation projects, where the groundworks and the electrical fit out happen weeks apart.
About Collingwood
Collingwood has been developing LED lighting technology since 2002, designing and manufacturing from its base in Sywell, Northamptonshire. Accessories like this installation tube are part of that same thinking: getting the groundwork right so the finished ground light performs and looks the part for years afterwards. The company has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of businesses assessed globally for sustainability.

Questions People Ask
What is a ground light installation tube actually for?
It gives the ground light a clean, lined recess to sit in. Fitting it before the concrete or paving goes down means you don't have to cut or core a hole to size afterwards, and it stops the surrounding material breaking away at the edges over time.
How do I know if this is the right diameter for my ground light?
This tube has a 56mm internal diameter, suited to Collingwood's smaller ground light bodies. Check the installation details for your specific ground light before ordering, as the tube needs to match its cutout and depth requirements precisely.
Does the cable exit through the base or the side?
On this tube, the cable exits through a hole cut into the side wall near the base, not straight up through the bottom.
What is the tube made from?
Anodised aluminium, which is covered by a 1 year guarantee.
