A Flat Panel That Solves The Glare Problem

The Solis 1200 x 300 is Collingwood's answer to the tired fluorescent panel still sitting in thousands of British suspended ceilings. It drops into the same 1200mm by 300mm ceiling module, so the grid stays exactly as it is, but the light coming out of it is a different thing entirely. A back lit build pushes 3450 lumens through a diffuser rated UGR16, which is the low glare figure specifiers look for when people spend all day in front of screens. At 30W that works out at 115 lumens per watt, so the wattage on the circuit drops sharply while the light level goes up.

White Frame, Softly Textured Diffuser

The body is aluminium finished in plain white, with a slim 32mm depth and a neat square edged frame that sits flush against the ceiling tile line. The diffuser is TP(a) rated and finely micro textured rather than milky, so it reads as a soft even sheet of light instead of a bright hot strip. White on white means it disappears into a standard grid ceiling tile, and the long narrow proportion suits corridors, desk runs and reception counters better than a square 600 x 600 does. Light output is a neutral 4000K with a colour rendering index of 80, a clean commercial white that keeps paperwork, signage and skin tones looking normal.

How It Works

The LEDs and optics are sealed into the panel itself, so there is no lamp to change and no tube to dispose of. It arrives with a quick fit connector for the mains feed and a 1m safety steel cable, which is what makes swapping an existing panel a short job rather than a rewire. Choose between two builds. The non dimmable version, code P2B16S30WA, has its driver on board and simply needs a switched live. The dimmable version, code P2B16X30WA, is supplied without a driver and pairs with Collingwood's PS6501100MA driver, ordered separately, which unlocks DALI-2, 0-10V and push dim control. The beam spreads at 90 degrees, and Collingwood's own spacing guidance puts the 30W panel at roughly 500 lux with fittings on a 2.4m by 2.4m grid.

Where It Works Best

This is a working light for working buildings. Open plan offices, meeting rooms, school classrooms, GP surgeries, shop floors, reception areas and back of house corridors all suit it, particularly anywhere a lay in grid ceiling already exists and the brief is better light for less energy. The 1200 x 300 shape is the one to reach for when you want light running along a space rather than dotted across it, so think circulation routes, till points and long desk banks. There is no suspended grid required if you use the accessories: the P2SMB surface mount kit fixes it directly to a solid ceiling, and the P1SK suspension kit drops it below a high soffit.
