A simple way to hang a flat panel
Most LED panels are made to drop into a ceiling grid or sit in a plasterboard cut out. This Collingwood kit, product code P1SK, is for the jobs where neither of those is possible. It turns a 600 x 600 or 1200 x 300 panel into a suspended fitting, hung on steel wires at whatever height the space needs. If you have been searching for an LED panel suspension kit because the ceiling above you is a bare concrete slab or exposed steel, this is the part that solves it.
Steel wires and bare metal hardware
Everything here is steel. The cables are fine braided wire, thin enough to all but disappear against a ceiling once the panel is up and lit. Each cable runs through a small ceiling bracket with a cone shaped gripper, and the bracket itself is a flat plate with two screw holes, so it sits tight to the soffit without much visual weight. The ends of the cables carry sprung clips. The hardware is left as plain bright metal rather than painted or lacquered, which keeps it neutral against a white, grey or unfinished ceiling and stops it clashing with the panel frame.
How It Works
Two suspensions come in the kit, along with the clips and the ceiling fixings needed to put them up. The bracket screws to the ceiling first. The cable then feeds up through the gripper in that bracket, and the gripper holds it at whatever length you pull through, so you set the drop by hand and fine tune each wire until the panel sits level. The clips take the load at the panel end.
No specialist tools are involved and there is nothing to wire into the kit itself, because it is purely mechanical. It does not touch the panel's driver, its lumen output or its colour temperature. All it changes is how the fitting is held up.
Where It Works Best
This is an accessory for open ceilings, so think about the installation rather than the decor. Warehouses and workshops with exposed soffits. Retail units where the structural slab is the finished ceiling. Offices in converted buildings that have no suspended grid to drop a panel into. School and clinic corridors with a high solid ceiling and nowhere to recess anything.
It also earns its place when a panel simply needs to sit lower. Dropping a 1200 x 300 down over a reception desk, a counter or a bench brings the light closer to the working surface and lifts the light level where it actually matters. Anywhere a Collingwood 600 x 600 or 1200 x 300 panel needs to hang rather than recess, this is the part that does the job.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and manufactures its LED products in Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market. Collingwood has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, which places it in the top 5% of companies assessed for sustainability worldwide. Small parts like this suspension kit sit in the same commercial range as the panels they are built to carry.
Good to Know
- Covered by a 5 year Collingwood warranty.
- Steel construction across the cables, ceiling brackets and clips.
- Made for Collingwood 600 x 600mm and 1200 x 300mm LED panels. Product code P1SK.
- No IP rating is published for the kit itself, so the panel's own rating governs where it can be installed.
- Stockist guidance is to pair the suspension kit with the matching surface mounting kit, so the panel hangs from a rigid frame rather than from its own edges.
- The panel it carries still needs a mains supply. Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
- Wipe the metal parts with a dry cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners.
Questions People Ask
How many suspension wires are in a Collingwood P1SK kit?
A Collingwood P1SK kit contains two suspensions, supplied with clips and the fixings needed to fasten them to the ceiling.
Which LED panels does the Collingwood P1SK suspension kit fit?
The Collingwood P1SK suspension kit is designed for 600 x 600mm and 1200 x 300mm LED panels.
Can the hanging height be adjusted?
Yes. Each steel cable feeds through a gripper in its ceiling bracket, so the drop is set by pulling the cable through to the length you want, and each wire can be adjusted individually to bring the panel level.
Does a panel suspension kit need to be wired in?
No. The Collingwood P1SK is a mechanical mounting accessory with no electrical connection of its own, although the LED panel it supports still requires a mains supply.
Does suspending a panel change how much light it gives out?
No. A suspension kit only changes how the panel is held in place, so the lumen output, colour temperature and driver performance of the LED panel are unaffected.
