A neat way to surface mount a Solis panel
Not every ceiling has a suspended grid to drop an LED panel into, and not every ceiling can be cut into. The P2SMB is Collingwood's answer to that. It is a shallow rectangular frame that fixes straight onto a solid ceiling and holds a Solis 1200 x 300 LED panel inside it, so the panel sits against the surface instead of buried in it. The frame is sized specifically for the 1200mm x 300mm panel, so there is no packing out or improvising to get a clean line around the edge.
Matt white painted aluminium
The frame is aluminium with a matt white painted finish, chosen to sit quietly against a standard white ceiling rather than draw the eye. Collingwood publishes it at 1201mm long, 301mm wide and 70mm high, and it weighs 1.5kg on its own. That 70mm depth is what gives the finished fitting its low box profile: deep enough to enclose the panel body and its cabling, shallow enough that the result still reads as a slim line of light rather than a bulky batten. It pairs with the Solis 1200 x 300 panel, which is a separate purchase.
How It Works
This is a mechanical frame rather than an electrical part. The frame is screwed into the ceiling first. The LED panel then slides into the frame, and the remaining side screws go in to lock it in position and finish the job. Because the frame carries the fixing points, the panel needs no grid, no ceiling cutout and no void behind it. Collingwood lists two things this kit is for: mounting panels where there is no ceiling grid, and doing it quickly.
Where It Works Best
This is the accessory you reach for when a panel is going onto a solid ceiling. Plaster, a concrete soffit, timber, or plasterboard with no tile grid above it. Offices and meeting rooms refitted without a suspended ceiling are the common case, along with corridors, stockrooms, workshops, treatment rooms and utility spaces where the structure stays exposed. It is also the practical route in a room where the void above the ceiling is simply too shallow to swallow a recessed panel.
