A Ground Light Built to Disappear Into the Landscape
The GL016 sits flush with the ground, so by day it all but vanishes into a path, a deck or the edge of a pond. At night it throws a clean, focused line of light exactly where you want it, without the fitting itself competing for attention.
Solid 316 Stainless Steel, Made for the Ground
This version is finished in 316 grade stainless steel, the same grade used in marine fittings, so it resists corrosion even close to water or salt air. The lens is clear, giving a crisper, more directional beam than a frosted diffuser would. A discreet Collingwood mark is etched into the bezel rather than printed on, so it won't wear off with foot traffic.
How It Works
- Runs at 1W (350mA) or 2W (700mA), so brightness depends on which driver output it's wired to.
- Available in 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, so it can match warmer path lighting or a cooler, more neutral scheme elsewhere in the garden.
- Beam angle is 26 degrees, giving a fairly tight, defined pool of light rather than a broad wash.
- It's low voltage and Class III, so it needs a separate driver and never carries mains voltage itself.
- Wiring is in series, letting several GL016 fittings share one driver along a run of path or decking.
- The visible face is 60mm across, the body is 43mm deep, and it drops into a 50mm cutout. A 1m flying lead is supplied for connecting into the cable run.
Where It Works Best
Rated IP68 and genuinely submersible, not just splash resistant, the GL016 works as well set into the base of a pond or water feature as it does along a path or edging a lawn. IK09 impact resistance and a walk over rating mean it can take being driven over, stepped on or caught by a lawnmower without complaint, which suits driveways, patios and decking as much as flower beds and borders.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has focused solely on LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, and it has since been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability. A ground light built to survive being submerged and walked over, like the GL016, sits squarely in that sealed for life tradition.
Good to Know
- Comes with a 7 year warranty from Collingwood.
- Rated IP68, submersible and suitable for outdoor, wet and underwater installation.
- IK09 impact rated and walk over rated, so it can be driven or walked over once installed.
- Low voltage, Class III fitting. It needs a separate driver, sold separately, and Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
- Wiring is in series, so multiple units can run from a single driver.
Questions People Ask
- Can the GL016 actually go underwater? Yes. It's rated IP68 and submersible, so it's designed for use in ponds and water features as well as on dry ground.
- Will it survive being driven over or parked on? It's IK09 impact rated and specifically walk over rated, so it's built to take foot traffic, vehicles and equipment like lawnmowers passing over it.
- Does this light come with its own driver? No. It's a low voltage fitting wired in series, so it needs a separate compatible driver sized for the number of fittings on that run.
- What's the difference between the 1W and 2W settings? The GL016 can be run at 1W (350mA) or 2W (700mA) depending on the driver output it's wired to, giving some control over brightness at installation.
- What size hole does it need? It drops into a 50mm cutout, with a visible face of 60mm and a body depth of 43mm.
