A ground light that softens rather than glares
The GL016 is one of Collingwood's round LED ground lights, built to sit flush with a path, patio or driveway and take genuine foot and wheel traffic. This frosted version swaps the clear lens for a diffused one, so instead of a small bright point of light you get a soft, even glow that's easier on the eye when you're standing close to it or looking straight down.
The black frosted finish
This listing is the black version, made from marine grade 316 stainless steel with a black finish rather than raw metal, so it reads as a dark, low key detail in the ground rather than a shiny disc. The frosted glass lens sits flush with the black surround and carries a small Collingwood logo etched into the edge. Choose your colour temperature at checkout, 2700K for a warm glow, 3000K for a slightly whiter warm white, or 4000K for a cooler, more neutral light.
How It Works
- Recesses into a 50mm cut out, with the fitting itself measuring 60mm across and 43mm deep, and comes with a stainless steel installation sleeve to set into the ground before fitting the light
- Runs on low voltage and needs a separate driver, which isn't included, with fittings wired in series so several can share one driver on the same circuit
- Draws 1W at 350mA or 2W at 700mA depending on how the driver is set up, giving you some control over brightness
- Dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver
- CRI80 for reasonably accurate colour rendering underfoot
Where It Works Best
Because it's genuinely rated to be walked or driven over, the GL016 suits patios, driveways, garden paths and decking, anywhere you want a low level marker light rather than a feature. The frosted lens is worth choosing over the clear version if the light will be seen up close, at the edge of a path or step, where a diffused glow reads as more considered than a sharp pinpoint. It also works well lining a pond or coastal garden, since the black finish and IP68 build shrug off wet conditions.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first to bring sealed for life, fully waterproof LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, which is the kind of build a walk over ground light like the GL016 depends on. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.

Questions People Ask
Can I actually walk or drive over this light?
Yes. It's IP68 rated and IK09 impact resistant, and Collingwood rates the GL016 as suitable for foot and vehicle traffic once it's properly recessed.
Do I need to buy a separate driver?
Yes. It's a low voltage fitting and the driver isn't included, so you'll need to size one to suit the number of lights you're running in series.
What's the difference between the frosted and clear lens?
The frosted lens diffuses the LED into a soft, even glow, while the clear version gives a sharper, more defined point of light. Frosted suits spots where the light will be viewed up close.
Is this light dimmable?
Yes, provided it's run from a suitable dimmable driver rather than a standard one.
