A Ground Light That Ages With the Garden Around It
Most ground lights are built to keep a fixed finish for life. This one is built to do the opposite. The GL016 in solid brass is the same mid sized, walk over fitting Collingwood uses for lining paths, edging decking and lighting the margins of a pond or water feature, but in a material that's designed to change. Left outdoors, the brass slowly develops a natural antique patina, so the fitting looks a little different each year rather than staying static like the anodised stainless steel or black versions of the same light.
Solid Brass, Left to Weather Naturally
This variant is solid brass rather than a brass finish over another metal, which is what allows the patina to form properly as it's exposed to rain, soil and handling. Early on it keeps a brighter, more polished look, then mellows over months and years into deeper golds and browns. Because that weathering happens at its own pace, no two installations end up looking quite identical, which is part of the appeal for anyone building a garden that's meant to age well rather than look freshly unwrapped forever.
How It Works
The GL016 runs on low voltage and needs a separate driver, sold apart from the light itself, with fittings wired in series so several units can share one driver. Depending on the driver output selected, it draws 1W at 350mA or 2W at 700mA, and is available in 2700K, 3000K or 4000K colour temperature, with a fixed 26 degree beam and a CRI of 80. It's rated IP68, sealed against dust and built to withstand continuous submersion, and carries an IK09 impact rating, meaning it's genuinely designed to be walked or driven over rather than just splash resistant. Electrically it's Class III, and the fitting is designed to be set into a 50mm cut out, with a 60mm diameter face and a 43mm body depth, connected via a 1 metre flying lead.
Where It Works Best
Because it's walk over and submersion rated, this light earns its place in spots most fittings can't go: set flush into a path or driveway, recessed into decking, or mounted at the edge of a pond or water feature where it may sit under water some of the time. The brass finish suits gardens with other aged or natural materials nearby, such as stone paving, timber decking or existing brass or bronze fittings, where a light that changes colour over time reads as intentional rather than worn out. It also pairs naturally with Collingwood's black or stainless steel GL016 fittings if you want to run a mixed scheme, since all versions share the same beam and mounting size.
Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first to bring fully waterproof, sealed for life LED fittings to the UK electrical wholesale market, an approach that shows up directly in this light's IP68 build. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.

Questions People Ask
Will the brass finish change colour over time?
Yes. It's solid brass, so it will develop a natural antique patina as it weathers outdoors, unlike the black or stainless steel versions of the GL016, which keep a fixed finish.
Can this light sit under water in a pond or water feature?
Yes. It's rated IP68, which covers continuous submersion as well as dust protection, so it's suitable for pond edges and water features as well as ground level paths.
Is it safe to walk or drive over?
Yes. It carries an IK09 impact rating and is genuinely walk over rated, unlike lights that only claim splash resistance.
Does it come with a driver?
No. It's a low voltage fitting and needs a separate driver, which is sold apart from the light. Multiple fittings can be wired in series from one driver.
What size hole does it need?
It's designed for a 50mm cut out, with a 60mm diameter face and a 43mm body depth.
