An Underwater Light Built for Fountains and Cascades
The Fountain 25W is a submersible light made to sit below the surface of moving water and stay there. It's built for fountains, cascades and other water features where a light needs to keep working while fully submerged, not just cope with the odd splash.
Stainless Steel, Low Voltage, 3000K
This version has a 316 stainless steel housing, the marine grade steel used where constant water contact and corrosion resistance matter most, including in chlorinated or treated water. It runs on low voltage from a separate driver rather than straight off the mains, and puts out a warm 3000K white light through a 35° beam. Colour rendering is CRI 80, so stonework, water and planting nearby still look reasonably natural under it.
How It Works
At 25W the Fountain produces 1700 lumens, which works out at around 68 lumens per watt, a good efficiency for a submersible fixture. It needs a separate low voltage driver, and the wiring is set up in parallel so several units can be run from one supply. The housing is IP68 rated for full submersion, and this light actually relies on being underwater to stay cool in normal use, so it should be installed submerged rather than run dry. It's also rated IK08 for impact resistance and can be walked over, so it copes well with the everyday knocks a fixture at water level tends to get.
Where It Works Best
This is a light for water, not for borders or paths. Think fountains, cascades, rills and ponds, where the fixture sits below the surface and needs to keep working in constant contact with water, including chlorinated or treated water. The 35° beam and 3000K colour temperature give a warm, natural glow to moving water and the stone or render around it, rather than a cold white light. Multiple units wired in parallel work well across a run of cascades or around the edge of a larger pond, all fed from a single driver.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, and for a submersible fixture like this one, it's that sealed, waterproof engineering that really counts. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- IP68 rated for full submersion, built to run underwater in fountains, cascades and ponds rather than as a splash proof outdoor light.
- IK08 impact resistant and walk over rated.
- 316 stainless steel housing, chosen for corrosion resistance in constant water contact, including chlorinated or treated water.
- Class II electrical rating, low voltage, and needs a separate driver, which isn't included.
- Cut out size 167mm, overall dimensions approximately 182mm diameter x 65mm depth, weight 2.6 kg.
- Comes with a 5 year warranty.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician, especially given this fixture runs in and around water.
Questions People Ask
Does this light need a separate driver? Yes. The Fountain 25W is low voltage and needs a separate driver, which isn't included with the light itself.
Can it run permanently submerged? Yes, and it needs to. It's IP68 rated for full submersion and relies on the surrounding water to keep it cool, so it shouldn't be run dry out of water.
Will it cope with chlorinated or treated water? Yes. The 316 stainless steel housing is built for corrosion resistance in constant contact with chlorinated or treated water as well as fresh water.
Can I dim it or change the colour? No. This version isn't dimmable and runs at a fixed 3000K warm white.
How many can I run from one driver? Wiring is set up in parallel, so multiple units can be run from a single driver, which suits lighting a full cascade or the edge of a pond.
