The Biggest Sealed 24V Driver Collingwood Makes
The PSIP25024 is a 250W waterproof LED driver, and it is the workhorse at the top of Collingwood's 24V constant voltage range. It produces no light of its own. Its job is to take 220 to 240V mains and hand back a clean, stable 24V DC supply of up to 10.4A, which is enough headroom to run a long continuous strip run or a whole zone of 24V fittings from one box. What sets it apart from an ordinary driver is the sealing. The entire unit is rated IP67, so it does not need to be tucked away somewhere dry and warm to survive.
A Ribbed Aluminium Case Built to Shed Heat
This is a single finish product and the finish is purely functional. The body is a matt black extruded aluminium shell with cooling fins ribbed along one face, capped at each end by bare silver aluminium plates held on with visible screws. Steel mounting brackets are bolted to the underside at both ends, each with slotted fixing holes so you can shift the unit slightly to line up with an existing fixing. Collingwood lists the construction as steel and aluminium. It reads as a piece of plant rather than a piece of decor, which is exactly right for something that lives in a plinth, a ceiling void or an outdoor enclosure.
How It Works
Mains comes in through a 0.25m flying lead of 1mm² 3 core cable and 24V DC leaves through a 0.25m flying lead of 2mm² 2 core cable, so there are no terminal blocks to open and no gland to seal on site. The output is SELV, which is the safe extra low voltage classification, and the driver carries built in protection against short circuit, overload and over current. Collingwood rates efficiency at 84% with a power factor of 0.96, and quotes an inrush current of 30A over 0.2ms, which matters when several drivers share one circuit breaker.
One point catches people out. The PSIP25024 is not dimmable straight out of the box. Dimming is added by wiring in Collingwood's PDCINT1-10V interface, a separate accessory that sits between the driver and the load and brings 1-10V control. Without it, the driver simply runs at full output. It is also not a DIN rail unit, so plan for surface fixing through those end brackets.
Where It Works Best
This driver goes wherever a large 24V load needs feeding and the location is too damp for a standard IP20 supply. Typical homes for it are external plinths and garden enclosures, soffits and canopy voids, plant rooms, undercroft parking, pool surrounds and commercial landscape schemes where long runs of Collingwood LED strip or a group of 24V landscape fittings all pull from a single supply. It is equally at home indoors in a service riser or above a ceiling, where the sealing simply buys you peace of mind about leaks and condensation.
Because the housing is sealed to IP67 it is also suitable for bathroom use, including the wetter zones where an unrated driver would not be permitted. Our guide to bathroom lighting zones sets out which rating belongs where. Ambient temperature is rated to 50 degrees Celsius, so give it air rather than burying it in insulation.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has worked in LED technology since 2002. The brand states that it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market. It has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, which places it in the top 5% of companies assessed worldwide for sustainability. Accessories like this driver are catalogued alongside the fittings they power, which is why the load tables in Collingwood's own driver guide are worth a look before you specify.
Good to Know
- Rated output is 250W at 24V DC, with a maximum output current of 10.4A. Maximum input draw is 285W at 220 to 240V AC.
- IP67 means the case is dust tight and protected against temporary immersion in water, so it can be sited outdoors or in wet locations.
- The 24V output is SELV, safe extra low voltage, which is why 24V strip and landscape fittings can be handled safely once powered.
- Dimming is not built in. The separate PDCINT1-10V interface is required for 1-10V control, and without it the driver runs at full output only.
- Protection covers short circuit, overload and over current. Efficiency is 84% and the power factor is 0.96.
- Measures 220mm long by 62mm wide by 36mm high and weighs around 0.9 kg. It is not DIN rail mountable.
- Maximum ambient temperature is 50 degrees Celsius. Leave ventilation around the finned face and keep it clear of insulation.
- Care is simply a wipe of the case to keep the fins clear of dust and debris. There are no user serviceable parts.
- Backed by a 3 year Collingwood warranty.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
How much LED load can the Collingwood PSIP25024 run?
The Collingwood PSIP25024 has a rated output of 250W at 24V DC and a maximum output current of 10.4A. Good practice is to size the connected load with some margin below 250W rather than loading the driver to its full rating.
Is the PSIP25024 dimmable on its own?
No. The PSIP25024 only dims when Collingwood's PDCINT1-10V interface is wired in alongside it, which is a separate accessory. On its own the driver runs at full output with no dimming.
Can the Collingwood PSIP25024 be installed outdoors?
Yes. The PSIP25024 is rated IP67, meaning the housing is dust tight and withstands temporary immersion in water, so it can be mounted outdoors, in wet locations or in unheated external enclosures.
What are the dimensions and weight of the PSIP25024?
The Collingwood PSIP25024 driver measures 220mm in length, 62mm in width and 36mm in height, and weighs around 0.9 kg. It fixes through steel brackets at each end and is not designed for DIN rail mounting.
What cables are supplied with the PSIP25024?
The PSIP25024 is supplied with flying leads rather than terminals. The mains input is a 0.25m length of 1mm² 3 core cable and the 24V output is a 0.25m length of 2mm² 2 core cable.
