Texture and Shadow, Facing Right
The Armstrong 6R in Dries Ribbon glass is the right facing counterpart to the 6L, its six globes sweeping outward and down to the right along the same angular brass spine. Dries Ribbon's fine, hand formed ribbing catches and scatters the light from within each globe, and because the glass is mouth blown, the texture varies slightly across all six.
In Dries Ribbon Glass
Ribbed in the blowing process itself, Dries Ribbon glass throws soft, shifting patterns of light onto nearby surfaces rather than a flat glow, an effect that changes through the evening as ambient light fades and the fitting's own light becomes more dominant. It's the most overtly handcrafted of Schwung's three glass finishes, chosen where the light's texture is as important as its output.
Choose Your Finish
The brass frame is available in lacquered burnished brass, polished nickel, or black gunmetal, each carrying the same six Dries Ribbon globes. Black gunmetal tends to recede and let the glass texture stand out, while polished nickel adds an extra layer of reflected detail.
How It Works
Six 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulbs are included, one per globe, giving 30W combined at 2700K and roughly 3000 lumens. The fitting dims with a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer. It measures approximately 139cm high, 35cm wide and 33cm deep, weighing around 5.8kg, and mounts flush to a ceiling or directly to a wall via a single circular backplate about 12cm across. No IP rating is specified, so it belongs in dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms.
Where It Works Best
Pair the 6R with the 6L in Dries Ribbon glass for a dramatic, symmetrical feature wall, or use it alone wherever handcrafted material character and a shifting play of light matter, a dining room, a stairwell, or a landing with plain plasterwork that can act as a canvas for the light pattern.
Made by Schwung
Founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen, Schwung develops each of its three signature glass types in house at its own workshop. According to Schwung, Dries Ribbon is intended as the most artisanal of the three, its variation from globe to globe treated as a feature rather than something to be engineered out.
Good to Know
- Made to order in Poland at Schwung's workshop
- Not returnable, as with all Schwung fittings, since each one is made to order
- Six hand blown Dries Ribbon glass globes (approximately 15cm diameter each, texture varies slightly globe to globe) on an angular brass frame, in this right facing orientation, pair with the 6L for a symmetrical installation
- Approximately 139cm high, 35cm wide and 33cm deep, weighing around 5.8kg
- Takes 6 x 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulbs, included, 2700K warm white, approximately 3000 lumens combined, dimmable with a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer
- No IP rating specified, so best suited to dry indoor spaces rather than bathrooms
- Brass care: clean regularly with a soft cloth or duster, a damp cloth can also be used, dry the frame fully before switching back on, do not use cleaning agents on brass parts
- Glass care: clean the outside with a soft dry cloth, use a damp cloth first on dirtier glass, a gentle glass cleaner will lift grease
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician
Questions People Ask
How is the 6R different from the 6L in this glass?
Only in orientation. The 6R's globes sweep to the right rather than the left, so the two work as mirror images when installed together.
Does the ribbed texture affect how much light comes through?
It changes the quality of the light rather than the overall output, scattering it into soft patterns instead of a flat wash, but the lumen output is the same as the other two glass types.
Is this fitting suitable for a bathroom?
No IP rating is specified for this fitting, so it should be kept to dry indoor rooms rather than bathroom zones.
