The Armstrong 6L in opal mat glass takes the same left facing, six globe format and gives it the most diffused, evenly spread light of the three glass options. Fixed to an angular brass spine, the six globes sweep outward and down to the left, reading as one continuous sculptural form rather than six separate points of light.

In Opal Mat Glass

Opal mat glass is the most versatile of Schwung's three glass types, fully diffusing the light inside so that none of the LED source is visible through the surface, only an even, soft white glow. It's the glass to choose where the priority is a broad, glare free wash of light rather than pattern or texture, and it suits almost any room style since it reads as calm and neutral rather than decorative.

Choose Your Finish

Three brass finishes are available for the frame: lacquered burnished brass for a warm, traditional tone; polished nickel for a cooler, more contemporary look; and black gunmetal for the most graphic, high contrast option. Each carries the same six opal mat globes.

How It Works

Each globe takes a 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulb, six included, for a combined 30W, 2700K warm white output and around 3000 lumens. It's dimmable via a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer. The fitting measures approximately 139cm high, 35cm wide and 33cm deep, weighing around 5.8kg, and can be flush mounted to a ceiling or fixed to a wall through a single circular backplate roughly 12cm across. There's no IP rating listed, so it should stay in dry indoor rooms.

Where It Works Best

Opal mat is the glass to reach for in larger, higher ceilinged rooms, open plan living spaces, wide hallways, or bedrooms where a soft, generous spread of light matters more than a decorative pattern on the wall. Paired with the 6R it forms a wide, symmetrical installation either side of a headboard or fireplace; used alone, its even glow still reads as a considered, deliberate fitting rather than a stopgap.

Founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen, Schwung builds every Armstrong fitting to order, hand finishing the brass frame and mouth blowing each glass globe individually at its workshop. Schwung positions opal mat glass as its most liveable, most widely usable finish across the whole Armstrong collection.

Does opal mat glass hide the bulb inside?
Yes, that's the point of this glass type. It fully diffuses the light source so you see an even glow rather than the bulb or its filament shape.

Should I choose the 6L or the 6R?
They're mirror images of the same fitting. Choose based on which direction you want the sweep of globes to run, or order both for a symmetrical pair either side of a feature.

How many bulbs come included?
Six 5W LED candelabra bulbs are included, one for each globe.
