Six Globes, Facing Left
The Armstrong 6L is the left facing version of Schwung's six globe wall and ceiling sconce, its brass spine carrying six globes that sweep outward and down to the left. In marble glass, the fitting takes on a milky, softly veined character, each globe subtly different from the next since no two pours of this hand blown glass are identical. Mounted on a wall or flush to a ceiling, it reads as a single sculptural gesture rather than six separate lights.
In Marble Glass
Marble glass is one of three glass types Schwung blows for the Armstrong range, and it is the one built around depth rather than clarity. Fine internal veining runs through the milky white body of each globe, breaking up the light as it passes through and giving the fitting a layered, softly diffused glow rather than a flat wash. It suits rooms furnished with natural materials, stone, wood, aged brass, where a warmer, more textured light feels at home.
Choose Your Finish
The Armstrong 6L's brass frame is available in three finishes: lacquered burnished brass, with its warm, lived in tone; polished nickel, a cooler and more reflective option; and black gunmetal, for a darker, more graphic frame. All three carry the same six marble glass globes, so the choice comes down to how the metal should read against the wall.
How It Works
Each of the six globes is fitted with a 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulb, six included in total, giving a combined 30W and a warm 2700K colour temperature at around 3000 lumens. The fitting is dimmable with a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer. It measures approximately 139cm high, 35cm wide and 33cm deep, weighing around 5.8kg, and mounts flush to a ceiling or fixes to a wall via a single circular backplate around 12cm across. No IP rating is specified for this fitting, so it's intended for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms.
Where It Works Best
The 6L's left facing sweep makes most sense as one half of a symmetrical pair with the 6R, flanking a fireplace, headboard or wide chimney breast, though it also works alone on a generous wall where a single directional sweep of light is wanted, a stairwell, a long landing, or above a run of low furniture. The marble glass leans this version toward more formal or traditionally furnished rooms, dining rooms and living rooms in particular, where its warmer, layered light is an asset rather than a statement in its own right.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Every Armstrong fitting is made to order at their workshop there, the brass frame formed and finished by hand and the glass globes individually blown, which is why Schwung describes each piece as carrying its own small variations rather than being a uniform, mass produced object.
Good to Know
- Made to order in Poland at Schwung's workshop
- Not returnable, as with all Schwung fittings, since each one is made to order
- Six hand blown marble glass globes (approximately 15cm diameter each) on an angular brass frame, in this left facing orientation, pair with the 6R for a symmetrical installation
- Approximately 139cm high, 35cm wide and 33cm deep, weighing around 5.8kg
- Takes 6 x 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulbs, included, 2700K warm white, approximately 3000 lumens combined, dimmable with a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer
- No IP rating specified, so best suited to dry indoor spaces rather than bathrooms
- Brass care: clean regularly with a soft cloth or duster, a damp cloth can also be used, dry the frame fully before switching back on, do not use cleaning agents on brass parts
- Glass care: clean the outside with a soft dry cloth, use a damp cloth first on dirtier glass, a gentle glass cleaner will lift grease
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician
Questions People Ask
What's the difference between the 6L and the 6R?
They're the same fitting built as mirror images of each other. The 6L's six globes sweep to the left, the 6R's to the right, so together they form a symmetrical pair when mounted either side of a feature such as a fireplace or headboard. Either can also be used on its own.
Can this be mounted to the ceiling as well as the wall?
Yes. It's designed to be flush mounted to a ceiling or fixed to a wall, using the same circular backplate either way.
Is the marble glass fragile?
It's mouth blown glass, so it should be handled and cleaned carefully, but once installed it's no more delicate than any glass light fitting. Clean the outside with a soft dry cloth rather than abrasive materials.
