The Armstrong 4L takes the same brass and glass language as the larger Armstrong fittings and condenses it into four globes that sweep out to the left of a central wall plate. In Opal Mat glass, it is the calmest version of this compact sconce, built to sit quietly in a hallway or bedroom rather than demand attention.

Opal Mat glass fully diffuses the bulb inside each of the four globes, producing an even, glareless glow rather than a visible point of light. It is the most adaptable of Schwung's three glass finishes for the Armstrong 4, at home in almost any decor from a minimal bedroom to a busier, more layered living space.

The brass structure is available in Lacquered Burnished Brass, Black Gunmetal, or Polished Nickel, so the frame can be matched to existing brassware or hardware elsewhere in the room.

How It Works

Four E14 LED bulbs are included, 5W each, and the fitting takes dimmable bulbs if you want to run it from a dimmer switch. It measures approximately 92.2cm high by 35.2cm wide by 33.1cm deep and weighs around 9kg. This is a wall mounted sconce only, not designed for ceiling use. Each one is made to order in Poland, typically within 4 to 6 weeks.

Where It Works Best

The 4L's left facing sweep makes it a natural choice for the left side of a doorway, bed head, or fireplace, either on its own or paired with the matching 4R on the opposite side for a symmetrical installation. It suits bedrooms, hallways, and living rooms where a directional wall light is more useful than a central pendant.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Every Armstrong fitting, including this smaller four globe sconce, is made to order from solid brass and mouth blown glass in the brand's own workshop.

What is the difference between the 4L and the 4R?
The 4L's four globes sweep out to the left of the wall plate, while the 4R is built as a mirror image with the globes sweeping right, so the two can be installed either side of a doorway, bed, or fireplace as a matching pair.

Do I need to buy the 4L and 4R together?
No, the 4L works perfectly well as a single fitting. Buying both is only necessary if you want a symmetrical pair.

Is it dimmable?
Yes, provided dimmable LED bulbs are fitted and the fitting is wired to a compatible dimmer circuit.
