Vio Tall: Floor Level Light With Genuine Presence
Vio Tall is Orluna's floor mounted wall and step washer for projects that want more than a subtle glow underfoot. Its slightly elongated bezel houses an engine range that stretches all the way up to high output, so rugs, stone flooring, stair risers and adjoining walls can be lit with real intensity as well as Orluna's characteristic colour accuracy.
Choosing Your Configuration
Vio Tall's engine range is the broadest in the collection: Origin (General Use) for straightforward, cost conscious schemes, Origin High Output where more raw intensity is needed, Origin Natural (Highest Quality) for Orluna's most colour accurate output, and Origin Natural High Output where both intensity and colour fidelity matter. Colour temperature runs 2700K for a warmer glow or 3000K for a slightly more neutral tone, and IP rating extends from IP54 for sheltered interior use up to IP67, which opens the door to genuinely wet or outdoor locations. Bezel finish is a straight choice between stainless steel, tough and unobtrusive, or white (RAL 9010) to disappear into a painted floor or wall junction, while the baffle can be specified in black anodised for maximum glare control or white (RAL 9010) to match a lighter surround.
How It Works
Recessed at floor level, Vio Tall washes a vertical surface, a stair riser, a skirting wall or an adjoining rug edge, with a controlled spread of light rather than a single hot spot. The baffle and recessed source keep glare to a minimum for anyone walking past at eye level, while the aluminium body behind the optic manages heat away from the LED, which is what allows the higher output engines to run for years without a noticeable drop in colour quality or intensity.
Where It Works Best
Vio Tall is built for stairs and walls, precisely the brief its bezel size and higher output engines are tuned for; a run of Vio Tall fittings along a stair stringer or feature wall reads as considered layered lighting rather than an afterthought. That sets it apart from Vio Square, which shares the same footprint category but stops at Orluna's General Use and Natural Highest Quality engines, a more restrained specification suited to quieter, more compact applications. It is a different fitting again from Duet and Muro, both ceiling recessed wall washers that light walls from above rather than from floor level.
Made By Orluna
Vio sits within a range Orluna built up gradually after Andrew Kilborn took the company in a new direction in 2009, following the success of the Quad 50 downlight with further compact architectural families including One, Cero, Curve, Origin, Fade and, eventually, Vio itself. Underneath the finish, Orluna's engineering instincts still trace back to 1973, when the company was founded by aeronautical engineers applying LED technology to demanding civil and military settings long before it reached architecture. That heritage shows up in the choice of materials here: 316 marine grade stainless steel for the bezel where moisture resistance matters, and anodised finishes engineered to hold their appearance over time.
