The Light Symphony Driveway Beam Sensor with Repeater, model LS30820DBS, introduces a defined trigger point to a garden lighting system. When someone or something interrupts the beam between its sensor heads, the unit sends a wireless command to compatible Light Symphony lighting controllers.

That makes it useful for an entrance or approach where you want lighting to respond to arrival. The trigger is tied to crossing the beam, rather than simply being somewhere within a broad motion detection area.

A Beam Sensor and Signal Repeater in One System

The opposing sensor heads are positioned facing one another. The manufacturer's datasheet lists an optical span of 2 to 12 metres. This beam distance is separate from the much longer wireless communication range between system components.

The repeater function relays compatible wireless commands to help extend coverage. The pictured enclosure and sensor close-up show different parts of the arrangement; the enclosure alone is not the beam detector.

How the Timed Lighting Works

The adjustable on-time runs from 1 to 15 minutes, and a dusk setting helps avoid unnecessary daytime lighting triggers. The system is designed to respect lights already switched on manually rather than turning them off when the sensor period ends.

Compatible lighting controllers still operate the lamps. The sensor system and its wiring require installation, while the trigger command is transmitted wirelessly to the lighting system.

Correct alignment and secure mounting are essential. A broken beam may be caused by more than a visitor, so do not assume the sensor is immune to animals, vegetation or accidental obstruction.

Where It Works Best

A beam sensor suits a defined crossing point, such as the entrance to a driveway or a path. Position the heads around the route you want to detect and allow for gates, planting and normal movement around the property.

If the aim is to detect movement across a wider area without two opposing heads, consider the Light Symphony PIR Motion Sensor. If you already have an electric gate trigger to use, the Gate Interface is a different option.

Plan the Trigger and Radio Coverage Together

The sensor heads must have a clear beam path, while the transmitter also needs reliable communication with the lighting controllers. These are two separate checks.

Light Symphony lists up to 1,000 metres of wireless range in clear line of sight. Buildings and obstacles reduce that figure, so commission the system under the conditions in which it will actually operate.
