A Small Spotlight Built to Point at Almost Anything
The UL030 SPS is a compact universal LED spotlight on a fully adjustable swivel mount. It is the kind of fitting that earns its keep by being flexible, aim it up into a tree canopy one week and drop it into the base of a pond the next. With an IP68 rating it is submersible to 9m, so it genuinely works as both a dry mounted garden spotlight and an underwater light for a pond or water feature.
The Stainless Steel Finish
This version is machined from 316 marine grade stainless steel, the same specification used on boat fittings and coastal architecture, which is why it holds its brushed silver finish in salty air and driving rain alike. The barrel has a ribbed heat sink texture that helps the LED run cool, and the whole head pivots on a 360 degree bracket bolted to a square drilled base plate. A brass version of the UL030 SPS is sold separately if you want a warmer toned housing instead. At checkout you choose the beam spread, a tight 12 degree spot for picking out a single specimen tree or feature, or a wider 40 degree wash for lighting a border or path edge, and the colour temperature, 2700K, 3000K or 4000K.
How It Works
Inside the housing is a 4.6W integral LED, normally driven at 700mA for full output, though it can be run at 350mA where a softer wash is preferred. It is Class III and low voltage, which means it needs a separate low voltage driver to step down from the mains, the driver is not built into the fitting. Each light arrives with a 3m flying lead ready to wire back to that driver. Because these fittings are designed to be wired in series, the driver's total capacity governs how many lights can safely share one run, so it is worth checking that before adding more than one or two to a single circuit.
Where It Works Best
Its size and swivel mount suit borders, raised beds, tree uplighting and gravel paths, anywhere you want a precise, controllable spot of light rather than a broad wash. The IP68 submersible rating means it also does well fully underwater in a pond or fountain, up lighting a water feature from below the surface, or half submerged at a pond edge picking out planting. Being 316 stainless steel, it also holds up well in an exposed coastal garden where salt air corrodes lesser metals quickly.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and builds its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has worked specifically in LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale trade. It has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it among the top 5% of companies assessed worldwide for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Covered by a 7 year manufacturer's warranty.
- Rated IP68, submersible to 9m, so it can be used dry mounted or fully underwater in a pond or water feature.
- Class III low voltage fitting, it must be run from a separate low voltage driver, which is not supplied with the light.
- Dimmable only when paired with a suitable low voltage dimming driver, check compatibility before specifying a dimmer.
- Wired in series, so total run length and the number of fittings on one circuit depends on the driver's rated capacity.
- Body is 316 marine grade stainless steel, clean with a soft cloth and fresh water if used near salt spray or pool chemicals.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
- Can the Collingwood UL030 SPS be left fully underwater? Yes, it carries an IP68 rating and is submersible to a depth of 9 metres, so it can be mounted permanently underwater in a pond or water feature.
- Does the UL030 SPS come with its own driver? No, it is a low voltage Class III fitting that must be connected to a separate low voltage driver, which is bought and wired in as a separate item.
- What is the difference between the 12 degree and 40 degree beam versions? The 12 degree beam produces a tight, focused spot suited to a single tree or feature, while the 40 degree beam spreads the light wider across a border or path.
- Can several UL030 SPS lights run from one driver? Yes, they are designed to be wired in series, though the number that can be safely connected depends on the output capacity of the driver used.
- What colour temperatures is this light available in? The UL030 SPS is offered in 2700K warm white, 3000K warm white and 4000K cool white.
