A Small Black Spotlight Built To Work Underwater
The UL030 SPS is a compact black outdoor spotlight with a talent that most garden lights do not have. It is rated IP68 and can be fully submerged to a depth of 9 metres, so the same fitting that lights up a specimen tree can just as happily sit on the floor of a pond, aimed up through the water at a fountain or a planted margin. A 360 degree stainless steel bracket lets you set the angle once and leave it, whether that is a tight uplight on a trunk or a wash across a wall.
Black Anodised Aluminium With A Stainless Steel Bracket
This version has a black anodised aluminium body, giving it a flat, matte finish that disappears into borders, gravel and dark mulch rather than drawing the eye during the day. The 360 degree bracket and fixing screws are stainless steel, so the moving parts that get the most weathering are built to resist corrosion even in a coastal garden or right at the pond edge. It sits well alongside slate, granite and other dark hard landscaping, and reads as a quiet, purpose built fitting rather than a decorative one.
How It Works
An integrated LED chip sits behind the lens, rated at 4.6W, and it can be driven at 700mA for full output or dropped to 350mA where a softer wash is wanted. Because the LED is built into the fitting, there is no separate lamp to change over its lifetime. You choose the colour temperature at the point of purchase, either a warmer 2700K or a slightly crisper 3000K, and the beam angle, either a tight 12 degree spot for picking out a single feature or a wider 40 degree flood for a broader area. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a compatible driver, wired in series with any other fittings on the same circuit, and it comes with a 3 metre cable ready to connect. The base plate has pre drilled fixing holes, so it can be screwed to a wall, a post or a submerged paving slab depending on where it is going.
Where It Works Best
Because it is fully submersible, this is one of the few spotlights that genuinely works in a pond, aimed up through the water at a fountain jet or a stand of marginal planting. Out of the water it does the same job uplighting a specimen tree, picking out a piece of garden sculpture, or grazing light across a stone wall or rendered exterior. The stainless steel bracket and sealed body make it a sensible choice for exposed or coastal gardens as well as sheltered courtyards, anywhere a small, discreet fitting needs to survive being rained on, splashed or occasionally knocked.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has focused specifically on LED technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life, and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale market, and a fitting like the UL030 SPS, sealed well enough to sit underwater, reflects that same approach. Collingwood has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good To Know

Questions People Ask
- Can the Collingwood UL030 SPS be left submerged in a pond permanently? Yes, it is rated IP68 and submersible to a depth of 9 metres, so it can be installed underwater as a permanent pond light rather than only used in dry, outdoor locations.
- Does the UL030 SPS come with a driver included? No, this is a low voltage fitting that needs a separate, compatible driver wired in series, and the driver is not part of this listing.
- Can I change the beam angle after installing this light? No, the beam angle is fixed at manufacture as either 12 degrees or 40 degrees, so the angle is chosen when ordering rather than adjusted afterwards, though the direction it points can still be changed using the swivel bracket.
- What is the difference between the 2700K and 3000K versions? 2700K gives a warmer, more amber toned light, while 3000K is a little cooler and crisper, and both are offered as separate colour temperature options on this listing.
- Can the LED in this fitting be replaced if it fails? No, the LED is integrated into the fitting rather than a separate replaceable lamp, so the whole unit is designed to be swapped rather than relamped, and it carries a 7 year warranty from Collingwood.
