A Compact Ground Light Built to Take a Footstep
The GL100 sits flush into paving, decking or the edge of a lawn, its stainless steel dome barely rising above the surface once installed. Where a twin facet ground light throws its beam in two directions, this three facet version spreads light across three, useful for a junction in a path or the corner of a patio where more than one direction needs covering.
Stainless Steel, Three Points of Light
The dome is machined from stainless steel 316, the grade used for coastal and marine fittings because it resists corrosion better than standard stainless steel. Three light apertures are cut into the dome at even intervals, each one recessed behind the metal so the LED itself sits shielded from direct footfall.
How It Works
- Runs at 1W on a 350mA driver or 2W on a 700mA driver.
- Available in 2700K warm white, 3000K warm white or 4000K cool white.
- Beam angle of 75° from each of the three facets.
- A low voltage fitting. It needs a separate driver to step the voltage down, and the driver is sold separately rather than included.
- Wired in series, so it forms part of a chain of ground lights run back to a single driver rather than wired individually.
- Connects using waterproof in line connectors, sold separately, matched to your cable run.
Where It Works Best
Use it anywhere a path changes direction or a patio meets a step, where a single beam would leave one side dark. It's rated to be walked and driven over, so it holds up on driveways, courtyards and public walkways as well as garden paths. Being submersible to 9 metres, it also copes with standing water after heavy rain or in a spot that floods occasionally, which a typical outdoor light wouldn't survive.
Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale market, groundwork that shows in a fitting like the GL100, built to survive being walked on and submerged rather than just rained on. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- IP68 rated and submersible to 9 metres, so it suits paths, patios and driveways rather than typical indoor use.
- IK07 impact resistant and walk over rated, built to take foot and vehicle traffic.
- Class III low voltage fitting, wired in series and run from a separate driver bought alongside it.
- CRI of 80 for reasonably natural colour rendering outdoors.
- Cuts out to 33mm, with a 40mm diameter faceplate and 46mm depth once installed.
- 7 year warranty from Collingwood.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Does this come with a driver?
No. The GL100 is a low voltage fitting and needs a separate low voltage driver, sold on its own, to run it from the mains.
Can I drive over it?
Yes. It's walk over and IK07 impact rated, so it's designed to sit in a driveway or path that takes vehicle or foot traffic.
What's the difference between the facet options?
The GL100 range also comes in twin and quad facet versions. Twin spreads light in two directions and quad in four, making this three facet version a middle option for a path junction or corner.
How many can I run from one driver?
That depends on the driver's output and which wattage you choose, 1W at 350mA or 2W at 700mA, since the lights are wired in series. Check the driver's specification against the total load before wiring multiple units together.
