A Tiny Ground Light That Sends Its Glow Two Ways
Most ground lights throw their light in a single direction. This one has two windows set opposite each other in the same small dome, so it lights the path both ahead and behind from one fitting. It is part of Collingwood's GL100 mini range, a walk over light small enough to sit flush in a path, step or driveway without anyone noticing it is there until it is switched on.
Finished in Antique Brass
This version is made from solid brass and finished in antique brass, a warm, aged tone that will change subtly over time as it weathers outdoors. The dome is just 40mm across and 46mm deep, with a 33mm cutout, so it sits neatly into a small drilled hole with barely any disruption to the surface around it.
How It Works
The GL100 runs on low voltage rather than mains power, so it needs a separate low voltage driver to work. It draws 1W at 350mA or 2W at 700mA, depending on how the driver is set, and is wired in series so several fittings can share the same driver along a run of path or steps. Light comes from two integrated LEDs behind toughened lenses, each throwing a 75 degree beam, in your choice of 2700K warm white or 3000K warm white, at a CRI of 80.
Where It Works Best
Because it sends light in two directions from one point, this is the fitting to reach for at the centre of a path, the middle of a step run, or a driveway where people and cars need guidance from both directions. It works well threaded along garden paths, patios, decking edges and coastal driveways exposed to salt air and rain, anywhere a subtle, low level marker light is more useful than a bright spotlight.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has focused solely on LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fully sealed, submersible outdoor fittings like this one to the UK electrical wholesale market, at a time when waterproofing LEDs to this standard was still unusual. Collingwood has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, putting it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- IP68 rated and submersible to 9m, so it copes with standing water, driving rain and being buried in wet ground.
- IK07 impact rated and genuinely walk over rated, built to be stepped on and driven over.
- Class III low voltage fitting. It needs a separate compatible driver, which is not included, and is dimmable when paired with a suitable driver.
- Wired in series, so several GL100 fittings can run from one driver. Connector accessories and an installation tube are available separately from Moonlight Design for a tidy install.
- Comes with a 7 year warranty from Collingwood.
- As this fitting is powered through a mains connected driver, Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Does this light face one direction or two?
Two. It has two windows set opposite each other in the same dome, so it lights both sides of a path or step from a single fitting.
Can it be walked on and driven over?
Yes. It is IK07 impact rated and genuinely walk over rated, so it can take foot traffic and light vehicle traffic once installed correctly.
Does it run straight off the mains?
No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a separate low voltage driver. It cannot be wired directly to mains power.
How many can I run from one driver?
It is wired in series, so several GL100 fittings can share a single driver. The exact number depends on the driver's output and the total wattage of the fittings connected to it.
Will the antique brass finish change over time?
Yes. Antique brass is a natural metal finish and will develop a deeper patina with age and outdoor exposure, which is part of its character.
