A Wall Mounted Motion Sensor for Building Fronts and Driveways
The Steinel IS 180-2 in black is an infrared motion sensor that switches a separate light on when someone walks into its detection zone. It covers 180 degrees, with a reach of up to 12 metres that can be set to 5 metres. It switches loads up to 1000W (LED lighting is limited to 350W), so it suits an outdoor security light, a driveway light or a doorway light. Please note this is a sensor only. It does not include a light.
Black Finish, Compact Housing
This version has a black housing with a brushed look front panel and the Steinel logo down one side. The white domed multi lens sits under a black hood, so the sensor is discreet against dark cladding, brick or render. It measures just 120mm high, 76mm wide and 56mm deep. The same sensor is also made in white, so you can match it to the wall it goes on.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor with a multi lens detects movement across a 180 degree area. You can set the reach to up to 12 metres or down to 5 metres, and the supplied shrouds let you block off parts of the detection zone, for example to stop it picking up a neighbour's path or a road. The on time is adjustable from 5 seconds to 15 minutes and the twilight level from 2 to 2000 lux, both set with potentiometers. The best mounting height is 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It runs from a 230V, 50Hz mains supply, is a Class II product, rated IP54, and is wired on the surface. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, and a courtyard or driveway. It mounts on a wall, or on a corner with the optional Steinel corner wall mount, which is sold separately. It is rated for indoor and outdoor use, with an operating temperature of -20 to 50 degrees C.

Does the IS 180-2 come with a light? No. It is a motion sensor that switches a separate light connected to it, up to a total load of 1000W. LED lighting is limited to 350W.
How far does it detect movement? It covers 180 degrees with a reach of up to 12 metres, which can be reduced to 5 metres. The supplied shrouds let you mask areas you do not want it to pick up.
How long does the light stay on? You choose. The on time can be set from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, and the twilight dial sets the light level it responds to, from 2 to 2000 lux.
