A Warmer, Sun Bleached Take on the Odyssey Arch

The Odyssey Santorini Medium keeps the same arched glass cloche and brass arm as the rest of the Odyssey family, but it's finished in a warm, sun bleached colourway exclusive to the Santorini collection. The finish takes its cue from the bleached stone and salt washed render of Cycladic buildings, and it gives this sconce a softer, more mineral feel than the standard Odyssey finishes. It sits at the mid point of the Santorini range, generous enough to hold its own on a wall but not so large that it needs a big room to work in.

Mouth Blown Opal Glass

The arched cloche is opal mat glass, mouth blown in cast iron moulds at Schwung's workshop. That process gives the frosted surface a depth and slight irregularity that a machine pressed globe wouldn't have, and it diffuses the light into a soft, even glow rather than a hard point source. Paired with the sun bleached brass arm, the effect reads warmer and more textured than the polished finishes elsewhere in the Odyssey line.

How It Works

The Santorini Medium takes a single E14/E12, G45 shaped LED bulb, supplied, with a maximum wattage of 15W and warm white light output. It's dimmable only with compatible electronic dimmers (ELV or trailing edge types), and it carries an IP20 rating, so it's intended for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms. The complete fitting measures approximately 305mm in height by 105mm in width, projecting around 142mm from the wall, and weighs approximately 2kg.

Where It Works Best

The Santorini Medium works well in a hallway or landing where its texture and colour can be appreciated up close, or as a pair either side of a bed in place of table lamps. It pairs naturally with lime plaster, natural stone, linen and warm painted walls, and suits interiors that lean into texture rather than hard, glossy surfaces.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. According to Schwung, the Santorini finish was developed specifically to reference the bleached architecture of the Greek islands, and it's applied by hand to the same solid brass frame used across the rest of the Odyssey range.
