Two Globes, Considerable Character
The Armstrong Dual is the smallest configuration in the Armstrong range, a single pair of glass globes extending in opposite directions from a compact brass frame. In Dries Ribbon glass, this modest footprint carries a surprising amount of visual interest, the fine ribbed texture of each globe scattering light into soft, shifting patterns rather than a plain glow.
In Dries Ribbon Glass
Dries Ribbon glass is formed with fine, raised linear threads running through the hand blown surface, created in the blowing process rather than applied afterwards. Lit, the ribbing refracts light into gentle, moving patterns on the wall behind, an effect that becomes more pronounced as the room dims. It's the most tactile and handcrafted looking of the three Armstrong glass finishes.
Choose Your Finish
The frame is available in lacquered burnished brass, polished nickel, or black gunmetal, all carrying the same pair of Dries Ribbon globes. A darker gunmetal frame tends to put the focus on the textured glass, while polished nickel adds its own reflected highlights.
How It Works
Two 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulbs are included, one per globe, for a combined 10W at 2700K and around 1000 lumens. Like the rest of the range, it's dimmable with a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer. The sconce measures approximately 64cm high, 15cm wide and 17cm deep, weighing around 2.2kg, and is designed for wall mounting. No IP rating is specified, so it should be kept to dry indoor rooms.
Where It Works Best
Its compact, symmetrical form suits a single feature position, above a console table, between two windows, or centred over a bed head, anywhere a small but characterful fitting is wanted rather than a broad wash of light. The Dries Ribbon glass adds a handcrafted quality that suits characterful, less formal rooms particularly well.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in Namyslow, Poland, in 2014, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Even in this smallest Armstrong configuration, the same workshop process applies, a hand finished brass frame paired with individually mouth blown glass, so no two Duals in Dries Ribbon glass are quite identical.
Good to Know
- Made to order in Poland at Schwung's workshop
- Not returnable, as with all Schwung fittings, since each one is made to order
- Two hand blown Dries Ribbon glass globes on a compact brass frame, extending in opposite directions from a central point, no two identically textured
- Approximately 64cm high, 15cm wide and 17cm deep, weighing around 2.2kg
- Takes 2 x 5W LED candelabra (E12) bulbs, included, 2700K warm white, approximately 1000 lumens combined, dimmable with a low voltage electronic or trailing edge dimmer
- No IP rating specified, so best suited to dry indoor spaces rather than bathrooms
- Brass care: clean regularly with a soft cloth or duster, a damp cloth can also be used, dry the frame fully before switching back on, do not use cleaning agents on brass parts
- Glass care: clean the outside with a soft dry cloth, use a damp cloth first on dirtier glass, a gentle glass cleaner will lift grease
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician
Questions People Ask
Is the Dual a standalone fitting, or does it need a pair?
It's designed to work as a single, self contained sconce, unlike the 6L and 6R which are built to be mirrored. One Dual is a complete installation.
How much light does it produce compared to the six light versions?
Considerably less, around 1000 lumens combined from its two bulbs versus roughly 3000 lumens from the six light Armstrong. It's better suited to accent or feature lighting than as a room's sole light source.
Will the ribbed texture be visible when the light is off?
Yes, the ribbing is a physical texture in the glass itself, so it's visible in daylight as well as when lit.
