Ten Globes, One Striking Silhouette
The Armstrong 10 Light arranges ten hand blown glass globes in a symmetrical fan from a central brass spine, turning a light fitting into a genuine piece of structure. In Dries Ribbon glass, it is the most textured of the three finishes Schwung offers for this design, each globe holding fine internal threads of glass that catch and scatter light rather than simply glowing evenly.
In Dries Ribbon Glass
Dries Ribbon glass is drawn by hand into delicate ribbons within each globe, so no two spheres read quite the same way when lit. The effect is a restless, shifting pattern of fine shadows cast across the ceiling or wall behind the fitting, changing character depending on the angle you view it from and the strength of the bulbs inside. It is the glass to choose if you want the Armstrong 10 to feel handmade and alive rather than simply decorative.
Choose Your Finish
The brass spine and structure is available in Lacquered Burnished Brass, Black Gunmetal, or Polished Nickel. Lacquered Burnished Brass and Black Gunmetal give the Dries Ribbon glass a warmer, more grounded frame, while Polished Nickel throws a cooler, more reflective line through the ten globes.
How It Works
Ten E14 LED bulbs are included, rated at 5W each, and the fitting is compatible with dimmable LED bulbs if you want to run it on a dimmer circuit. It weighs approximately 9.3kg. The Armstrong 10 can be mounted flush to a ceiling or turned through 90 degrees and fixed to a wall as a wide sconce, so the same fitting can serve as a ceiling centrepiece or a piece of wall sculpture depending on where you need it. Each one is made to order in Poland.
Where It Works Best
The scale and texture of this fitting suit rooms with height and breadth to spare, a double height hallway, a wide dining room ceiling, or a long run of wall beside a staircase. Because the Dries Ribbon glass throws such detailed shadow patterns, it rewards a plain, uncluttered backdrop, plaster, stone, or a painted wall, where the shifting light has somewhere to land.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. According to Schwung, every fitting leaving the workshop is made by hand from solid brass and mouth blown glass, with the Armstrong family in particular built around the idea of structure as decoration in its own right, not just a frame for the glass.
