Ironwork Pulled Tight to the Ceiling
A shallow steel dome, a collar of flat straps twisted into leaves under its rim, and two lamps sitting out in the open where you can see them. It stands 13.9cm below the ceiling and spreads 33cm across, so it costs you almost no headroom.
Grey Ash, and What the Camera Shows
Read the name and you might picture a soft mid grey. The photographs show something bolder: a near black charcoal, textured like grit, with fine pale flecks scattered across it that catch the light on the rim and along the folded edge of each leaf. Close up it looks more like cast iron than paint. Against a white ceiling it draws a firm dark line. If you would rather the fitting quietly disappear upward, the same size comes in Antique White instead, a warm off white rubbed back to brown along the edges.
How It Works
A short stem drops from the middle of the dome and carries a stubby cast crossbar with two E14 lampholders on it, one facing each way. Nothing shades them. Light spills down through the gaps between the leaves and also up into the inside of the dome, which throws a softer wash back across the ceiling. Because the lamps are on show, the ones you pick matter as much as the fitting does. They are not supplied. Dimming works, but only with dimmable lamps in it. The fitting is Class I, so it needs an earth connection at the ceiling, and the wiring is a job for a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
Low ceilings first. A drop of 13.9cm clears a landing, a loft bedroom, the top of a stairwell, a hallway you walk down with your arms full. The Bradbury family goes much larger if you have the height: a four light pendant at 40.5cm across on a drop that adjusts between 59.3cm and 307.5cm, and a five light chandelier spanning 63.6cm. Neither belongs in a room with a low ceiling. At the small end, this flush fitting and the two light wall light share the same twisted leaf language, so a hall lit by the flush version and a pair of the wall lights alongside reads as one scheme rather than two. The dark finish wants a room with some contrast in it already, exposed brick, dark joinery, a strong wall colour.
Quoizel, The Company Behind It
In 1996 Quoizel packed up its New York operation and moved headquarters, manufacturing and distribution to a 305,000 square foot site near Charleston, South Carolina. It has worked from there ever since, and Charleston and the low country still feed the design studio. You can see the influence in a fitting like this one: metalwork that looks handled rather than machined, a finish that mimics weathered iron, leaf shapes borrowed from a garden. Through all of it the company has stayed privately held and family run.

Questions People Ask
How much does it hang down, and is it the same size as the Antique White one? It sits 13.9cm below the ceiling over a 33cm circle, and yes, the two finishes share an identical body and weight. Only the paint differs.
Which lamps do I need? Two E14 small screw lamps, bought separately. The photographs use clear golf ball filament lamps, which suit an open fitting like this because you see the whole lamp. A warm colour temperature sits better with the dark metal than anything cool.
Can it go in a bathroom? No IP rating is published for this fitting, so keep it to dry rooms. Hallways, bedrooms and kitchens are fine, bathrooms and shower rooms are not.
