Espiga: A Garden Stem That Never Wilts
Espiga takes its name from the Spanish word for a plant spike, and the shape earns it. Three slender anthracite stems rise from a single weighted base, each one tipped with a smooth white leaf shaped head that hides its own G9 bulb. Planted among real borders or pots, it reads less like a lamp and more like something that grew there.
Choosing Your Espiga
This is the three head version of the Espiga floor lamp, sized for smaller beds, patio corners or a single large planter where three points of light are enough to do the job. Mantra also builds Espiga with five heads for wider borders that need more spread and a taller silhouette. If your space is compact, or you want to test the look before committing to the larger fitting, this three head anthracite version is the one to start with.
How It Works
Each of the three heads takes a G9 capsule bulb rated up to 5W, so you choose your own colour temperature and brightness rather than being locked into a fixed integrated LED. The frame is Class I, meaning it must be earthed, and the die cast aluminium stems support polycarbonate diffuser heads that spread light softly rather than throwing a hard beam. Assembly on arrival is minimal, mainly seating the stems into the base.
Where It Works Best
Espiga is built for outdoor planting schemes, borders, gravel gardens and larger patio pots where it can sit among foliage rather than beside it. Because the stems are narrow and dark, it tends to disappear into greenery by day and only announce itself once the bulbs are on at night. It suits a spot with some existing planting around it more than a bare corner, where the leaf heads have less to play off.
Made By Mantra
Mantra has been designing lighting in Valencia since 2000, building its name on the idea that a genuinely designed piece should not carry a premium price tag. Over more than two decades the brand has grown from a Spanish and southern European base into distribution across the Americas, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, which is a reasonable proxy for staying power in a business where short lived brands are common. Pieces like Espiga come from an in house design team working alongside named collaborators such as Jose Ignacio Ballester and Santiago Sevillano, whose work for Mantra has picked up recognition including a regional ADCV Gold in 2024. It is not positioned as a rival to the very top end of architectural lighting, but as design led lighting that a normal household can actually afford to fill a garden with.
