A Tiny Square Recessed Copper Spotlight

The LuxR Modux 1 Square Recessed is a very small low voltage outdoor spotlight that sits flush in a surface. The body is 31mm across and 38.5mm long, with a square flange 42mm wide that finishes the edge of the hole. You only see a small square of copper.

Solid Copper That Ages Beautifully

This version is made from copper. It starts out warm and bright, then gradually develops a soft natural patina outdoors, so the square mellows into the surface around it. The light source is a 1 watt Cree XPG-3 LED with a CRI of 90 plus, which helps materials look true to colour.

Choose Your Beam, Colour and Lens

• Beam: 15º is the tightest beam for a long, narrow reach, 30º suits a single feature, 53º is wider, and the oval beam stretches the light into a flatter shape.
• Colour temperature: 2200K is a very warm glow that suits copper well, 2700K and 3000K are warm white, and 4000K is a crisper neutral white.
• Lens: clear gives the sharpest beam, while frosted softens the edges of the light.

How It Works

Cut a 34.5mm hole, push the fitting in and the square flange sits against the surface. The fitting runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, and it is wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. A 1m cable is supplied. The LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.

Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

This is a good choice where you want light without seeing the fitting, such as in paving, decking, walls or steps. The square flange suits straight edged, modern materials. The same design is also available as the larger M2 and M4. Moonlight Design uses LuxR in its own garden lighting designs and installations.

What size hole do I need for the square recessed copper light?

The cut out is 34.5mm. The body is 31mm across and the square flange is 42mm wide, so it covers the edge of the hole.

Does it come with a driver?

No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered electrician installs it.

Will the copper change colour?

Yes. Copper develops a natural patina outdoors over time, so the finish softens and darkens gradually. This is normal.

Which beam angle should I choose?
