A fixed spotlight in a finish built for the long term
The Hunza Spike Spot Non-Adjustable is a ground spike spotlight that pushes straight into a border, lawn edge or planting bed rather than needing a wall or post to mount to. This is the fixed head version, so the angle is set once at installation. This low voltage model is solid 316 stainless steel throughout.
The stainless steel finish
316 grade is the marine specification Hunza uses across its solid metal range, chosen for how it copes with damp and salt air. Our own photographs of this fitting show a consistent brushed finish over the whole body and spike, not a plated or part finish. Hunza notes it can develop a light surface tarnish in some conditions, which regular washing keeps in check, and it keeps roughly the same tone over the years rather than darkening the way copper does.
How it works
You push the 145mm spike into the ground and angle the body where you want the light to fall. There's no moving head to loosen or reset later. The fitting is 63.5mm in diameter and 75mm long, supplied with a 1m cable. It isn't supplied with a bulb, and a Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp is required to keep the IP66 rating and warranty valid. Being low voltage, it also needs a transformer, sold separately. The same fitting is available as a GU10 mains version if you'd rather avoid a transformer.
Where it works best
Good anywhere you want a single point of accent light and already know exactly where it needs to be aimed: a fixed feature, a specimen tree or a spot where the planting around it isn't going to change much year to year. Stainless steel's neutral tone tends to sit quietly against most planting and hard landscaping without drawing attention to itself.
Our own installations
The lifestyle photographs on this page are our own, from real projects we've lit, not stock imagery: a garden pergola, a close up by a doorway, a magnolia and a garden sculpture. Moonlight Design has installed Hunza lighting since we were founded in 2003, and stainless steel is the finish we suggest most often when a client wants the fitting to look the same in ten years as it does on day one.
Good to know
- Made to order: usually ships within 2 to 3 days. If temporarily out of stock, allow 3 to 5 weeks.
- Returns: this fitting can be returned within 14 days of delivery if unused, uninstalled and in original packaging.
- Not supplied with a bulb. A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp is required to keep the IP rating and warranty valid.
- Requires a transformer, sold separately, as this is a low voltage fitting.
- We recommend installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Will the stainless steel go patchy or discolour outdoors?
It can develop a light surface tarnish in some conditions, especially near the coast, but Hunza says regular washing keeps this in check and it doesn't affect how the fitting performs.
Why choose stainless steel instead of copper?
Stainless keeps a consistent brushed tone rather than ageing and darkening the way copper does, so it suits a scheme where you want the fitting's appearance to stay stable over time.
Can I change the angle once it's installed?
No, this is the fixed head version. Hunza also makes an adjustable version of the Spike Spot if you want to be able to change the aim later.
What bulb does it need?
A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp, bought separately, which keeps the IP66 rating and warranty valid.
Does it need a transformer?
Yes, this is a low voltage fitting, so a transformer is needed to run it, sold separately.
