A fixed copper spotlight built to catch the light as it ages
The Hunza Spike Spot Non-Adjustable is a ground spike spotlight that pushes straight into a border, lawn edge or planting bed rather than needing a wall or post to mount to. This is the fixed head version, so once you've chosen the angle at installation, the beam stays exactly there. This copper, low voltage model is solid copper throughout, not a plated finish.
The copper finish
We checked our own photographs of this fitting before writing this, and the body, collar and spike are all the same solid copper, not a copper cap on a different metal underneath. Left outdoors it will weather naturally, moving from a bright polished tone toward a darker brown and, in some settings, a green verdigris. Hunza builds the fitting to age this way rather than treating it as something to prevent.
How it works
You push the 145mm spike into the ground, angle the body where you want the light to fall, and that's it. There's no adjustable head to loosen or reset later, which suits a spot where the aim won't need to change. The fitting is 63.5mm in diameter and 75mm long, supplied with a 1m cable. It isn't supplied with a bulb, and to keep the IP66 rating and 10 year warranty valid it needs a Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp, sold separately. Being low voltage, it also needs a transformer, sold separately. The same fitting is available as a GU10 mains version if you'd rather avoid a transformer, and as an adjustable head version if you want to be able to change the aim later.
Where it works best
Good anywhere you want a single point of accent light and you already know exactly where you want it aimed: a specimen tree, a piece of topiary, a doorway, or a fixed feature in a border. Because the head doesn't move, it's better suited to a permanent, set piece position than to a spot where the planting around it is likely to change shape from year to year.
Our own installations
The lifestyle photographs on this page are our own, from real projects we've lit, not stock imagery: uplighting a Japanese acer, picking out a garden sculpture, and lighting a pergola and a swimming pool garden. Moonlight Design has installed Hunza lighting since we were founded in 2003, and the copper Spike Spot is a fitting we come back to whenever a client wants a finish that changes character over the years rather than staying static.
Good to know
- Made to order: usually ships within 2 to 3 days. If temporarily out of stock, allow 3 to 5 weeks.
- Returns: this fitting can be returned within 14 days of delivery if unused, uninstalled and in original packaging.
- Not supplied with a bulb. A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp is required to keep the IP rating and warranty valid.
- Requires a transformer, sold separately, as this is a low voltage fitting.
- We recommend installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Can I adjust the angle after it's installed?
Not on this version. The head is fixed once the spike is in the ground, so decide on the angle at installation. If you need to be able to change the aim later, Hunza also makes an adjustable head version of the same Spike Spot.
Will the copper finish look the same in five years?
No, and that's by design. Solid copper darkens and can develop a green patina outdoors, so expect the colour to change gradually rather than stay as bright as it is new.
What bulb do I need?
A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp, bought separately. Using a different lamp can affect the fitting's IP66 rating and will invalidate the warranty.
Does it need a transformer?
Yes. This is a low voltage fitting, so it needs a transformer to run it, which isn't included.
Is there a mains version of this fitting?
Yes, the same copper Spike Spot Non-Adjustable is also available as a GU10 mains version, which connects directly to mains power without a transformer.
