A mains spotlight in a finish that changes with age

The Hunza Spike Spot Adjustable GU10 mounts on a ground spike rather than a wall bracket, pushing straight into a border, lawn edge or planting bed. Running on GU10 mains keeps the installation simple: no transformer, just a standard mains connection. The head tilts and rotates so you can aim the beam exactly where you want it.

This version is solid copper.

The copper finish

This is solid copper rather than a plated finish, so it will weather naturally outdoors, moving from bright and polished toward a darker brown and, in time, toward green verdigris in some settings. Hunza treats this as part of the design rather than something to prevent.

How it works

Once pushed into the ground, the head can be angled and turned to point the beam at whatever you're lighting. It measures 63.5mm across the head, 90mm along the body, with a 200mm spike. It isn't supplied with a bulb, and a Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp is required to keep the IP66 rating and warranty valid. The same fixture is also available as a low voltage version if you'd rather run it through a transformer.

Where it works best

Good for picking out single features without a wall to fix to: freestanding trees, island beds, statues, or a path through open lawn, particularly where copper's warmth and slow change in tone over the years suits the setting.

Moonlight Design has specified Hunza since we were founded in 2003, over 23 years across their range, and the mains copper Spike Spot is a straightforward option where running low voltage cable and a transformer isn't practical.

Questions People Ask

Does this need a transformer? No. This is the GU10 mains version, so it wires directly into a standard mains supply with no transformer needed. The same fixture is also available as an MR16 low voltage version if you'd rather run it that way.

Will the copper change colour over time? Yes, and this is intentional. Solid copper weathers naturally outdoors, moving from a bright polished tone to a darker brown and, in some settings, a green verdigris. Hunza treats this as part of the design rather than a fault.

Can this be wall mounted instead of ground spiked? No, this version pushes into soil or lawn on its integral ground spike. Hunza makes separate wall fixed spotlights if you need one that fixes to brickwork.

What bulb does it take? A Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately. Using anything else can affect both the IP66 rating and the warranty.
