A Low Voltage Spotlight Cast in Copper
This version of the Hunza Pole Spot pairs solid, uncoated copper with a low voltage circuit rather than a mains connection, so it ages naturally outdoors while staying on the safer, low voltage side of a garden lighting scheme. It takes an MR16 lamp, giving you the choice of beam angle and colour temperature at the point of purchase.
Solid Copper
Left unlacquered, copper reacts naturally to air and moisture, darkening from a bright metallic tone toward a deeper patina over time. This is expected and not a fault, and it tends to suit period gardens, brick paths and stone steps particularly well.
How It Works
- The head sits on a fully adjustable mount, so the beam can be aimed precisely at a tree, wall or statue.
- Runs on a low voltage system and needs a Hunza approved transformer to operate.
- Takes an MR16 lamp, which is not included and must be a Hunza approved LED to preserve the IP66 rating.
- Supplied with a 1m cable, ready to connect into your low voltage lighting circuit.
- Rated IP66, and backed by a 10 year warranty on the fitting, with the approved MR16 LED lamp covered for 5 years.
Where It Works Best
The warm, ageing tone of copper suits traditional and period gardens especially well, picking out a specimen tree, an archway or a piece of statuary against brick or stone, working alongside a Border Light rather than replacing one.
The photographs on this page are all taken from Moonlight Design's own projects, including a Pole Spot lighting a garden path and border at dusk, giving a real sense of how the fitting reads once it's installed.
Designed and Made in New Zealand
Hunza has hand assembled outdoor lighting in Auckland, New Zealand for more than 30 years, according to the brand, building its solid copper fittings with the expectation that they will be left outside permanently to age naturally.
Good to Know
- The solid copper finish will darken and patina naturally with weather exposure. This is normal and does not need to be prevented or polished away.
- This fitting is not supplied with a bulb. It requires an MR16 lamp, purchased separately.
- To maintain the IP66 rating and the warranty, a Hunza approved MR16 LED must be used.
- Requires a Hunza approved transformer, which is not included.
- Moonlight Design recommends that all outdoor lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Why does this version carry a longer warranty than the powder coated Pole Spot?
Solid copper is more resistant to long term weathering than a painted aluminium finish, and this version carries a 10 year warranty on the fitting against 5 years on the powder coated equivalent.
Will the copper finish change colour over time?
Yes, it is supplied uncoated and will darken and patina naturally with weather exposure, which is expected and does not need polishing to prevent it.
Does it come with a bulb?
No, it is supplied without a bulb. It takes an MR16 lamp, which must be bought separately and needs to be a Hunza approved LED to preserve the IP66 rating and warranty.
Does this Pole Spot need a transformer?
Yes, it runs on a low voltage circuit and requires a Hunza approved transformer, which is not included.
Is it suitable for permanent outdoor installation?
Yes, it carries an IP66 rating and is backed by a 10 year warranty, so it is designed to be installed permanently outdoors and left to weather naturally.
