This lamp is built around a tall glossy porcelain vase, painted black and threaded from top to bottom with gold scrollwork, leaves and trailing vines in a chinoiserie style. It has real scale and presence, the kind of piece that holds its own on a console table beneath a large mirror or on a substantial sideboard.

The Gold and Black colourway

Every inch of the porcelain body carries the same dense, richly patterned design in gold and warm amber tones against a deep black ground, with a narrow gold band running around the base of the vase. A cream polycotton shade, pleated all the way round, sits on top, finished with a small antique brass ball finial. The base beneath the porcelain is turned wood in a dark finish, chosen to disappear against the black of the vase rather than compete with it.

How It Works

The lamp takes a single E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you can choose the wattage, colour temperature and dimmability that suits the room. As a Class I fitting it needs to be properly earthed, and fitting a dimmable bulb means it will work with a standard dimmer switch.

At nearly three quarters of a metre tall, this is a lamp for a spot with room to spare: a living room console table, a wide hallway table, either side of a dining room sideboard, or on a substantial bedside table in a larger bedroom.
