A Lantern With Its Own Foundation

Most lanterns need something to hang from or lean against. The Bayview pedestal version doesn't. It sits on its own stepped base, fixed straight down into a gatepost, a low wall top, or the paving either side of a path, doing the job an old carriage lamp did at the entrance to a drive without needing a wall behind it.

Black Aluminium And Bevelled Glass

The lantern head is cast in aluminium and finished in a flat black, glazed with clear bevelled glass on all four sides so light spreads outward rather than firing in one direction. A domed, ribbed cap and a small ball finial sit on top, echoing the traditional carriage lantern shape the rest of the Bayview range shares.

How It Works

One E27 lamp holder sits centrally behind the glass, bulb not included. Fit a dimmable LED and it will work with a compatible dimmer switch. This is a Class I, mains wired fitting fixed permanently to its base, so we'd always recommend a qualified electrician handles the outdoor wiring and installation.

Where It Works Best

Either side of a driveway entrance, set into the top of a low garden wall, or flanking a front gate, anywhere you want a fixed point of light at ground level rather than one mounted on a wall or a tall post.

Does this lantern fix to a wall or a post? No. This is the pedestal version, which stands on its own stepped base fixed down at ground level, rather than mounting to a wall or slotting onto a post like the other Bayview lanterns.

Does it come with a bulb? No. It takes one E27 bulb, not included. Choose a dimmable LED if you want to use it with a dimmer switch.

Is the Bayview pedestal lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It's IP44 rated, so it's built to handle rain and outdoor conditions at an entrance, driveway or garden wall.
