A Faceted Dome That Lights the Ground, Not Your Eyes
The GL200 is Collingwood's large domed marker light, built to sit flush in a path, driveway or piece of decking and throw a soft pool of light outward rather than a glare straight up. This version has three facet windows cut into the dome, so light spreads out in three directions across the surface around it.
Polished Marine Grade Stainless Steel
The dome and body are made from 316 stainless steel, the marine grade often used on boats and coastal architecture because it resists corrosion so well. Here it's polished to a bright, mirror like finish that catches ambient light even when the LED is off, and holds up in salty air, rain and repeated foot traffic without pitting or staining.
How It Works
- Wires straight to mains, so there's no separate driver to buy or hide nearby.
- Runs at 5.7W and produces around 10 lumens through a 90 degree beam angle, giving a low level glow rather than a hard beam.
- Available in 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, so it can be matched to warmer or cooler lighting elsewhere in the scheme.
- Wiring is parallel, meaning each fitting works independently. If one light on the run develops a fault, the rest keep working.
- A CRI of 80 keeps colours reasonably true under the light, useful where planting or paving colour matters.
Where It Works Best
This is a light for surfaces people actually walk, step and stand on, garden paths, patios, decking, steps and driveways. It's IK10 rated for impact resistance and genuinely walk over rated, so it's built to take the weight of feet and more besides. The polished stainless dome and IP65 sealing also make it a sound choice for coastal or otherwise exposed spots, where lesser fittings corrode or let in moisture over time.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fully waterproof, sealed for life LED fittings to the UK electrical wholesale market, which is exactly the kind of product a walk over ground light like the GL200 needs to be. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Comes with a 7 year warranty from Collingwood.
- IP65 rated and genuinely walk over rated, with IK10 impact resistance for a long life set into paths, patios or driveways.
- Rated to bathroom zone 2, so it also suits wet room or bathroom floor installation. See our guide to bathroom lighting zones for what that means in practice.
- Class I electrical, so it needs an earth connection as part of the installation.
- Not dimmable.
- Wires straight to mains with no driver required, and uses parallel wiring so each light on a run stays independent of the others.
- A matching installation tube is available separately from Collingwood, for a cleaner recessed fit.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician, as this is a mains wired fitting.
Questions People Ask
- Do I need a separate driver for this light? No. The GL200 wires straight to mains, so there's no driver to buy or fit alongside it.
- Can it be dimmed? No, this fitting is not dimmable.
- What colour temperatures are available? This version comes in 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, chosen as separate variants.
- Is it strong enough for a driveway, or does it only suit garden paths? It's IK10 rated for impact resistance and walk over rated, so it's built for regular foot traffic on paths, patios and driveways, not just light garden use.
- What happens if one light on a run fails? Because the wiring is parallel, each GL200 works independently, so a fault on one fitting won't take out the others on the same circuit.
