A Candle Sized Glow in Matte Black

The Wick S is Graypants' smallest cordless light, a slim aluminium form that turns almost sculptural in matte black. Set down in a dim room, the body all but disappears into shadow until the LED at the top glows into a soft, warm point of light, closer to a candle flame than a lamp bulb. It is the smaller of Graypants' two Wick sizes, built for spots where a full sized table lamp would feel too heavy.

The Matte Black Finish

This version is finished in matte black, a flat, low sheen coating over the aluminium body that reads as an object rather than a fixture. It sits alongside brushed brass and gunmetal versions in the same Wick S shape, but the black finish is the quietest of the three, happy to sit on a dark sideboard or a black dining table rather than stand out. The light module at the top uses acrylic to diffuse the LED into a soft glow rather than a hard point of light.

How It Works

The Wick S is fully rechargeable via USB-C, so there is no cord to trail across a table and no socket needed nearby. Once charged, it can be picked up and moved wherever it is needed, then set back down again the next evening. A touch ring set into the base steps through three brightness levels, High, Medium and Low, plus a Pulse setting that flickers gently to mimic an open flame. It runs on a 1W integrated LED with a warm 2600K colour temperature, so the light itself already reads as candlelight rather than a cool white glow. Being cordless and rechargeable, it is designed for indoor use only.

Where It Works Best

Its small footprint, 12cm across and 16.5cm tall, suits spaces too tight for a normal table lamp: a console table in a hallway, a bedside table, the corner of a dining table for an evening meal, or a reading nook where low, warm light matters more than overhead brightness. Because it needs no cable, it also works well as a light you carry from room to room through the evening, from a desk to a coffee table.
