Is opal glass more durable than clear?
They're equally durable, just different. Opal is slightly thicker and denser, which is why it weighs more. In terms of breakage risk, they're much the same.

Can I dim this light all the way to nothing?
Yes, if you're using dimmable bulbs and a dimmer that supports them. The opal will still be visible even at very low brightness levels, which is quite atmospheric.

Does the nickel finish ever need polishing?
No, satin nickel is specifically designed to look good without maintenance. An occasional light dust with a soft cloth is all that's needed. The matte finish means fingerprints aren't obvious like they would be on polished metal.
