A Solar Sensor Light with No Wiring to Run
The Steinel XSolar L-S in white is a solar powered outdoor wall light with a built in motion sensor. A separate solar panel charges a rechargeable battery during the day, and the LEDs switch on when someone walks into range. There is no mains connection and no running cost. It gives 150 lumens at 3000K warm white, and Steinel says it lights up to 30 square metres. It suits a garden wall, patio or side entrance where running a cable would be awkward.
White Finish with a Tilting Solar Panel
The housing and bracket are white plastic, with a clear cover over the three LED windows and a dark solar panel that angles up and away from the light head. The panel and the light head can be set separately, so you can tilt the panel towards the sun and aim the light where you need it. A small compass on the bracket helps you point the panel south.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor detects movement across a 140 degree angle, with a reach of up to 8 metres when someone walks across its field of view, and about 2 metres when they walk directly towards it. You set the time it stays on, from 10 seconds to 30 seconds, and the twilight level, which Steinel lists as 2 lux, using the potentiometer dials on the unit. The best mounting height is up to 2 metres. The integrated Steinel LED uses just 1.2W. Power comes from a 2500 mAh lithium iron phosphate battery, which Steinel says keeps the light available for up to 60 days without sun. It is a Class III, low voltage product with an IP44 rating and IK03 impact rating. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for the front door, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard, a driveway and all round the building. Because it needs no cable, it is a good fit for garden walls, sheds and outbuildings. Place it where the panel gets as much daylight as possible, and facing south if you can.

Questions People Ask
Does the XSolar L-S need a mains connection? No. It is powered by its own solar panel and a rechargeable 2500 mAh battery, so there is no mains wiring to run.
How long does the light stay on after it detects movement? You choose. The on time can be set from 10 seconds to 30 seconds with the dial on the unit.
Will it work in winter? Yes, within limits. Steinel says the battery gives up to 60 days of light availability without sun, but it performs best when the panel gets daylight, so choose a spot that is not heavily shaded.
Can I stop it coming on in daylight? Yes. A twilight dial sets the daylight level below which the light will respond. Steinel lists the twilight setting as 2 lux.
How high should I mount it? Steinel gives a mounting height of up to 2 metres for the sensor.
Who should install this product? We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Can I return it if it is not right? Yes. You can return this item within 14 days of delivery, provided it is unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging. See our returns policy for full details.
