A Larger Sensor Floodlight for Wide Areas

The Steinel XLED Home 2 XL in white is a wall mounted outdoor LED floodlight with a built in motion sensor. It gives 2124 lumens from 19.3W, and the sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of 10 metres. That makes it a practical outdoor security light for a big driveway, courtyard or garden. This is the XL size, at 161mm wide x 180mm high x 240mm deep, so it is a noticeably larger fitting than the standard XLED Home 2. Please check the dimensions against your wall space.

White Finish with an Opal Cover

The housing is white plastic with an opal cover over the LED panel, which Steinel says gives an even spread of light. The panel swivels fully, 180 degrees both horizontally and vertically, so you can aim the light exactly where you need it. The sensor head swivels separately. A magnesium composite body, which Steinel calls HCMC, draws heat away from the LEDs.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. You set the time it stays on, from 8 seconds up to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the potentiometer dials on the unit. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The LED is an integrated Steinel system at 3000K warm white with a CRI of 80 to 89. It runs from a 220 to 240V, 50 to 60Hz mains supply and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Steinel suggests it for all round the building: a driveway, courtyard, terrace or balcony. It fits on a wall or corner with surface wiring, and it is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
