A Black Sensor Floodlight for Driveways and Entrances

The Steinel XLED Home 2 in black is a wall mounted outdoor LED floodlight with a built in motion sensor. It switches on when someone approaches and off again after a time you set. It gives 1550 lumens from just 13.7W, and the sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of 10 metres. That makes it a practical LED security light for a driveway, side passage, courtyard or garden wall. This is a fairly large floodlight, so check the 161mm x 180mm x 218mm size against your wall before you order.

Black Finish with a Swivelling Panel

This version has a black housing and sensor head, with a flat opal cover over the LED panel that stays pale when the light is off. The black suits dark cladding, slate, brick and painted metalwork, where the white version would stand out more. The panel swivels on its bracket so you can aim the light where you want it, and the sensor head below swivels separately, 180 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically. A magnesium composite body, which Steinel calls HCMC, draws heat away from the LEDs.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. You set the time it stays on, from 8 seconds up to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the two dials on the unit. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The LED is an integrated Steinel system at 3000K warm white with a CRI of 80 to 89. It runs from a 220 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for all round the building: front and rear doors, a driveway, a courtyard, a terrace or balcony. It fits on a wall or corner with surface wiring, and it is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
