Steinel NightMatic 3000 Vario photo-cell controller - White

A Dusk to Dawn Controller for Outdoor Lights

The Steinel NightMatic 3000 Vario in white is an outdoor photo cell controller, also called a twilight switch. It has a built in light sensor and switches connected lights on at dusk and off again at dawn, so building fronts, entrances and shop windows are lit without anyone touching a switch. A selectable night economy mode can turn the lights off part way through the night. It switches loads up to 1000W (resistive) from a 230 to 240V mains supply.

Compact White Housing

The housing is white plastic and measures just 37mm x 74mm x 99mm, so it sits discreetly on a wall. The light sensor is the small round window on the front face, and the Steinel name is printed below it. Two screws at the bottom hold the cover on. This is the white version; Steinel also makes the NightMatic 3000 in black.

How It Works

The sensor measures the daylight level and switches the output on when it falls below the twilight level you set. That level is adjustable from 0.5 to 10 lux, set with potentiometers, and there is also a teach setting. Night economy mode is selectable: when it is on, the light is switched off during the night after a period you choose, rather than burning until dawn. The controller is rated IP54, works in temperatures from minus 20 to 50 degrees C, and is designed for surface wiring on a wall. It draws 0.8W itself. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for outdoor use all round the building: front doors, terraces and balconies, courtyards and driveways. It suits lighting for building fronts, properties and shop windows, where you want lights to follow the natural day and night cycle automatically.
