A Dusk to Dawn Switch for Outdoor Lighting
The Steinel NightMatic 3000 Vario is a photo cell controller that switches your outdoor lighting on at dusk and off again at dawn, with no timer to reset. It has a selectable night economy mode, and it is rated for up to 1000W resistive load. It is a neat way to automate building front lights, driveway lights or a courtyard, without a motion sensor.
Black Plastic Housing
This version is black (RAL 9005), in a compact plastic housing measuring 37 x 74 x 99mm. The light sensor sits in the front face, with the Steinel logo and model name printed beside it, and the wiring compartment is covered by a ribbed lower section held by two screws. The IP54 rating is marked on the housing.
How It Works
A light sensor measures the level of daylight. When it drops to your chosen twilight level, the controller switches the connected lighting on, and when daylight returns it switches it off. The twilight setting covers 0.5 to 10 lux and is adjusted with potentiometers on the unit. Steinel also gives it a selectable night economy mode. It runs from a 230 to 240V, 50Hz mains supply, uses 0.8W itself, and is wired by cable for surface mounting on a wall. Steinel gives its switching capacity as 1000W resistive, 1000VA for low voltage halogen, 600W for fluorescent lamps with an electronic ballast and 500VA for conventional ballasts. For LED lamps it lists 16W for lamps up to 2W and 64W for lamps above 2W. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for outdoor use all round the building: the front door, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard and a driveway. It mounts on a wall, works in temperatures from -20 to 50 degrees C, and is rated IP54, so it is protected against dust and splashing water.
