A Large Area Sensor Floodlight for the Outside of Your Home
The Steinel LS 300 LED in black is an outdoor LED security light with a built in motion sensor. It switches on when someone approaches and off again after a time you set. Steinel quotes 2704 lumens at 29.5W in 4000K neutral white, and the sensor covers 240 degrees with a reach of up to 12 metres. That makes it a good outdoor sensor floodlight for lighting a driveway, courtyard or the wall of a house.
Black Aluminium Floodlight Head
This version is finished in black, with a transparent glass cover over the LED panel and a black sensor head below it. The floodlight head is aluminium, mounted on a wall plate. The same floodlight is also made in white, so check the colour before you order. It measures 186 x 213 x 241mm, so it is a solid fitting rather than a discreet one.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. Steinel also lists a sneak by guard feature. You set the time it stays on, from 10 seconds to 15 minutes, and the twilight level it responds to, from 2 to 1000 lux, using the potentiometer dials on the unit. Steinel gives a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The LED is an integrated Steinel system with a colour rendering index of 80 to 89, and it cannot be replaced. Steinel quotes a life of 50,000 hours. It runs from a 220 to 240V mains supply and is a Class I fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for outdoors all round the building, especially a courtyard or driveway. It mounts on a wall with surface wiring and is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and IK03 for impact resistance.

Questions People Ask
How wide an area does the sensor cover? The infrared sensor covers 240 degrees. Steinel gives a reach of 12 metres when someone walks across the detection area, and 3.5 metres when they walk straight towards it.
How long does the light stay on? You choose. The on time can be set from 10 seconds to 15 minutes with a dial on the unit.
Will it come on in daylight? Not if you set the twilight dial for it. The dial sets the brightness level the light responds to, from 2 to 1000 lux.
How high should I mount it? Steinel gives a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres as the ideal height.
Can I replace the LED? No. The LED is integrated and cannot be replaced.
