Steinel L190 S Classic Lantern Wall light with 180 degree PIR - White

A Classic Lantern Wall Light with Motion Sensor

The Steinel L 190 S is a traditional outdoor wall lantern with a built in motion sensor. It switches on when someone approaches and off again after a time you set, so it works as a motion sensor wall light and a security light in one. The sensor covers 180 degrees and its reach can be set to 5 or 12 metres. It takes a standard E27 bulb up to 100W, which is not included.

White Cast Aluminium Lantern

This version is finished in white, with clear glass panes set in a die cast aluminium frame. The shape is a half lantern with a pitched cap and a decorative collar, and the sensor sits in the base below the glass. Because the finish is white, it sits neatly against light render, painted brick or white cladding. It is also available in black as a separate item.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor detects movement across 180 degrees. Turning the multi lens sets the reach to either 5 or 12 metres, and cover panels can be used to limit the area it watches. Using the dials on the unit, you set how long the light stays on, from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, and the twilight level it switches at, from 2 to 200 lux. The sensor works at a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. Steinel includes a basic light level function, which keeps the lamp at a low level until movement is detected, and a soft light start. A continuous light mode lasting 4 hours can be selected. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply at 50Hz and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the front door, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard, a driveway and all round the building. It fixes to a wall with surface wiring. It is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and IK03 for impact protection. It suits traditional and period homes particularly well.
