Steinel L190 S Classic Lantern Wall light with 180 degree PIR - Black

A Classic Lantern with a Built In Motion Sensor

The Steinel L 190 S in black is a traditional outdoor wall lantern that doubles as a sensor security light. A passive infrared sensor covers 180 degrees and can be set to a reach of 5 or 12 metres, so the lantern switches on as someone approaches and off again after a time you choose. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 100W, and the bulb is not included.

Black Cast Aluminium with Clear Glass

The housing is black die cast aluminium with ornate detailing around the roof, frame and sensor base, and clear glass panels let the bulb show through. Steinel describes the design as timelessly elegant. The black finish suits a traditional front door, a period property or a porch, and the sensor sits neatly in the base of the lantern rather than on a separate head.

How It Works

The passive infrared sensor detects movement across 180 degrees. Turning the multi lens sets the reach to r = 12 metres (about 226 square metres) or r = 5 metres (about 39 square metres). The on time can be set from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, and the twilight level from 2 to 200 lux, using the dials on the unit. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. Steinel also lists a basic light level function and a soft light start, and a continuous light mode that runs for 4 hours. It runs from a 230 to 240V, 50Hz mains supply, is a Class II fitting, and is rated IP44 and IK03. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the front door, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard or driveway, and all round the building. It is designed for surface wiring on a wall, and it is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
